They have glasses made for kids that are "unbreakable" they bend twist turn and take a nice beating with not even a scratch.... Ask the eye doctor, this is a common problem.

Tell him that if Bill Gates, or Steven Spielberg can wear glasses, then he can too, and show him pictures, and tell them who these people are. Also tell him that if he wears them now then he might not have to wear them until he is a grandpa. But now his eyes need the help to straighten out and become normal like everyone else that don't wear glasses. I have been wearing glasses since I was 16 and the styles are really fashionable, even for a four year old kid. You can also get the unbreakable ones for children. That is what I had to do for my son when he was 5. Eventually he didn't have to wear them.

Make sure the child is not being teased by any siblings/friends. Check the glasses are comfortable for him to wear. Is there a member of the extended family (grandparent, uncle, etc.) who wears glasses who could talk to the child about why he needs to wear the glasses and look after them? Praise him when he cares for his glasses: cleans the lenses, puts them in a case overnight, etc.
The glasses with flexible frames may help but he will still be able to break them if he chooses.

Have you tried the little strap that attaches to both ends? My friend's son has glasses he must always wear and she has them on like that. Also, at 4 you should be able to reason with him a little more or take away stuff for trying to break his glasses.

My son has glasses and we bought the flexible ones. They are great because kids are so careless with glasses. I have to warn you though - they sometimes stretch out of place too much and look crooked, quite easily. Then again, just explain to him that glasses are delicate.

buy the flexon glasses they don't break. Tell him they will help his eyes so he can see, so keep them on. I have a pair of the flexon and wouldn't buy anything else. Great for kids and people who have kids.
