I think it's really a problem all denominations are struggling with. Baptists used to be the leaders in knowledge that church and state do not mix -because- assuming prior God given knowledge that state has gone far beyond representing why government exists in the first place. If you refer to the God's plan it tells us to respect government that is to serve and protect based on truth. These days instead of modeling as John the Baptist did some seem to pay more attention to what may or may not be the time Jesus walks this earth again instead of modeling against secularism and doing as we are to do. We are expected to prepare for that day but I doubt God wants us to live in a closed grumpy box seeing no good in -everything- or welcoming bad doctrine into God's church without teaching any different. That is like having a relationship with God and not having one at the same time. There are many families being torn apart by churches, not just Baptist churches, who's Pastors and staff are trying to evade their jobs in the community by hiding and actually mirroring secularism. The concept of God is at work in everything is true but the other part of "now let's close the door and ignore the works of Satan as if God expects work from none is bizzarre. I see that as giving into temptation including the issue of masking dogmatic practice that I believe produced the feminist movement(wrath). Temptation knows no gender...Satan could care less of one's race, gender, etc. For instance: There is nothing in the Bible that suggests a man is to babied by woman (that being a woman's only existence) and if not labeled as "the problem" - based on emotions and lacking of IQ. Just like secularism attracts people looking for excuses many churches are doing the same...young adults carry this into churches and the church reacts to it. Where is the ministry going when it expects to have no bumps in the road God has many to travel?

Baptists are supposed to believe in a concept know as "priesthood of the believer". In contrast to catholocism... baptists don't follow the outline of intermediary prayer but believe a priest is not needed to pray or confess. Further, baptists believe in the trinity and that the Holy Spirit can guide us in our reading of scripture revealing all truths. So the only doctrine is the personal truth you receive based on biblical study. Not all baptists adhere to this, but thats the idea.

I believe Reformed Baptists hold to a Calvinistic theology except for how they view baptism.

We're not legalistic.......
We simply line it up with the truth to see if it holds water

We know that salvation is by grace alone & faith alone
And that we are justified by grace apart from the Law
And that man has total depravity...and needs an outside source (i.e. the Holy Spirit) to open our eyes to the truth and be enabled to believe

So it's official: I am a Tulip

The only problem with Baptists is they don't hold them underwater long enough.

They're willing to always question their motives in church to see if they line up with the Bible. I say that is a good thing!

Here - a parable for our time:

"I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said "Stop! don't do it!" "Why shouldn't I?" he said. I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!" He said, "Like what?" I said, "Well...are you religious or atheist?" He said, "Religious." I said, "Me too! Are you christian or buddhist?" He said, "Christian." I said, "Me too! Are you catholic or protestant?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me too! Are you episcopalian or baptist?" He said, "Baptist!" I said,"Wow! Me too! Are you baptist church of god or baptist church of the lord?" He said, "Baptist church of god!" I said, "Me too! Are you original baptist church of god, or are you reformed baptist church of god?" He said,"Reformed Baptist church of god!" I said, "Me too! Are you reformed baptist church of god, reformation of 1879, or reformed baptist church of god, reformation of 1915?" He said, "Reformed baptist church of god, reformation of 1915!" I said, "Die, heretic scum", and pushed him off."
