I don't care for the JWs either, but I'm not sure that your line of questioning will help any of them open their eyes to the truth. Witnessing to a JW is difficult under the best of circumstances since they are pretty much brainwashed into the cult just like Scientologists and Mormons. Most of what you throw at them that is counter-evidence to their additional texts is cognitively ignored.

Hi JC, I am a Born again Christian and actually have u listed in my favourites and you ask some excellent questions, however it may just be refering to God being the head over everything! Could you elaborate?
I too have asked, AND CONVERTED, JWs through questions but not sure on this as ;
The general providence has to do with the governing and control of the entire universe. The Bible speaks of God’s general providence in a number of ways.
It Deals With The Universe At Large
God is in control of the universe at large.
The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all (Psalm 103:19).
Daniel said.
All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: “What have you done” (Daniel 4:35).
Paul wrote.
In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will (Ephesians 1:11).
It Encompasses The Physical World
The physical world is under God’s providential control.
God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things that we cannot comprehend. It serves as a sign on everyone’s hand, so that all whom he has made may know it (Job 35:5,7).
The psalmist wrote.
You cause the grass to grow for the cattle, and plants for people to use, to bring forth food from the earth (Psalm 104:14).
Jesus said.
So that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous (Matthew 5:45).
He also said.
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you-you of little faith? (Matthew 6:30).
The Animal Kingdom Is Under God’s Care
God looks after the creatures in the animal kingdom.
The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God (Psalm 104:21).
Jesus spoke of the Father feeding the birds.
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they (Matthew 6:26).
The Affairs Of Nations Are In The Hand Of God
The affairs of nations are in the hand of God.
He makes nations great, and destroys them; he enlarges nations, and disperses them (Job 12:23).
Summary
The idea behind the general providence of God is that God is looking after and controlling all the parts of the universe. The Bible specifically speaks of God’s control over the universe at large, the physical world, the animal kingdom, and the affairs of nations. Therefore every part of the universe is directly under the control of the providence of God.
However, with the other Q's I have no fault in.
God Bless

Hi,
Great point you present here. I used to be a JW, and then came to realize they are just another one of the worlds religions. They seem to know a great deal, but some of their teachings are really not scriptural at all. Oh yeah, just to make a solid point here. The Governing Body is said to be infallible. Well they are just humans like the rest of us, so get over the God complex, and get saved just like the rest of us Christians. I know, they'll respond that "this means ever lasting life the taking in knowledge of you the one true God" I agree, but not all your knowledge is correct. The real truth is. " Jesus is the way, the truth ,and the life..no one come to the Father except by me, and that me is Jesus....not the governing body of JW's. They have also been in the media about molestation of young children. shame, but then again we are all sinners...even the JW's.

Most good translations include footnotes with the alternate translations for these two verses, similar to that which is noted here:
(Hebrews 13:7) Remember those who are taking the lead among you [footnote: Or, “are governors of you.” Gr., he·gou·me′non hy·mon′. See Mt 2:6 ftn, “Governors.”]
(Hebrews 13:17) Be obedient to those who are taking the lead among you [footnote: Or, “are governors of you.” Gr., he·gou·me′nois hy·mon′. See Mt 2:6 ftn, “Governors.”]

My turn to copy and paste
"The overall direction comes from the Governing Body at the world headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. The Governing Body sends representatives each year to various regions worldwide to confer with the branch representatives in those regions."
Wow, the Governing Body sure sounds like it's set up like the Pope and the deacons and the bishops in the Catholic Church.
You must obey the rules and laws of the Pope/ Governing Body who has the the right to change those rules and laws at any time.
The Bible says to obey the laws of Jesus, and gives no one authority to make up rules or change them.
The Bible also says to spread the Word, deeming these questions very appropriate.
No different than knocking on doors.

You really have something against us. Or is it just today?
God’s visible organization today also receives theocratic guidance and direction. At the headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Brooklyn, New York, there is a governing body of older Christian men from various parts of the earth who give the needed oversight to the worldwide activities of God’s people. This governing body is made up of members of “the faithful and discreet slave.” It serves as a spokesman for that faithful “slave.”
The men of that governing body, like the apostles and older men in Jerusalem, have many years of experience in God’s service. But they do not rely on human wisdom in making decisions. No, being governed theocratically, they follow the example of the early governing body in Jerusalem, whose decisions were based on God’s Word and were made under the direction of holy spirit.—Acts 15:13-17, 28, 29.

JC, you think you dislike them?
My mom's family are Jehovah's Witnesses. She left Kingdom Hall in her early 20's. I was raised secular. For about 30 years, my mom would take me to see them every year or so. They are not warm; I feel unwelcome in their house. One of her brothers won't talk to me. My two male cousins, indoctrinated in Kingdom Hall, were only rude toward me. One of them left public school to become home educated. Her youngest brother is saturated in homophobia.
Either this is the way Witnesses are, or just my mother's family of rural Midwestern Witnesses. I don't think Witnesses are as crazy as this particular crop.
How would you like to have a family like these people? Why are they like this?
I would like some Witnesses to answer here or open another question and explain what motivates them to be warm toward the rest of society.
I've been simmering on this for almost two years. Needless to say, I'm not going back to see them any time soon. What do you think, JC? One star for you.
