Oh, I thought I was the only one. My 7 year old has been tired. Took a 45 minute nap after homework. Then went to sleep on me at 7:30p.m and I had to wake him up at 6:00 a.m and I had a hard time getting him up. (His regular bedtime is 8:30 - 9:00 I don't think is much you can do. I read somewhere where it takes a whole week to get over the slump for both adults and kids.

Find some activity that your kids like and save it for the morning--a new project-coloring book--story, etc...--then when the alarm goes off earlier than they are used to--say in a loud voice--oh--guess what we have here--and you will be amazed at how quickly they jump out of bed!! It is the whole Disneyland syndrome--kids who have a hard time waking up early on weekends will wake up at 4 or 5 am on thier own when it's time for Disneyland--I'd try this fun activity thing for a couple of days--you could also incorporate fun breakfast time--by making something different/special for breakfast for those first few days..this should get them into the earlier rising mode..Good Luck:)

The time change shouldnt be an issue after the first day anymore. I have a 12 year old who has ALWAYS been very difficult getting up in the morning. I now set a time limit for her to be ready and if she is not, her computer gets taken away that evening. She has not missed the bus since.

We usually start on the Friday before the time change and get them to bed earlier. This time we had late-night activities Friday and Saturday (UGH). We have been and will be putting them to bed 1/2 hour earlier until they can get up OK. Then they can go back to their 'normal' bed time. Only the 9 yr old know it's 'earlier' and has had a few words about it, and we told him again that it would go back as soon as he could get up without trouble and not be grouchy. Good Luck!

My nephew is 6 and stays with me and I simply put him in the bed earlier. He gets is bath at 7:30 and is in the bed by 8. The first two nights he was in the bed at 7:30. Sounds early but it worked.

If my kids don't get up on time in the morning they have to go to bed 1/2 hour earlier that night - it works for us.

It's getting nice outside, and each day it's getting harder to get my 8-year old son up for school. He also has been saying he is sick, just so he dosen't have to get up. I told him, if he can't get up by 6:45 am, then he will start going to bed earlier. We will start by letting him up until 8:30pm. If he dosen't get up, then he has to be in bed by 8:00. So far it's working.

My mom used this on me in Chinese she would ask " Do you want to be a stupid pig" when I couldn't wake up for school at age 5. Then I would be up right away.
