I'm thinking about buying a bike. I started on a new diet and exercise plan about 6 months ago and everything's going well so far, down 40 lbs! Besides hitting the gym everyday, I'm trying to rely less on driving for everyday errands and things. But let's face it sometimes a place is just too far to walk. So, I was thinking about getting a bike. I don't want to spend a ton of money but I also don't want to get something that isn't a comfortable ride and thus just ends up sitting there. I'm a 29 year old female and haven't ridden in a bike in quite a while. I don't want anything complicated, just a single speed, cruiser kind of bike for getting around the neighborhood. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the answers so far. Maybe I didn't phrase my question properly. I was looking for suggestions on what make/model bike to get. Which brand? That kind of thing. thanks.

a "Cruiser" bike is comfortable, has fat tires and good seat, try to find 5 speed, you don't need 21 . These bikes are designed for comfortable pavement riding.

I have similar objectives..and have been very happy with my under 100 dollar model. Bikes are also things that end up on sale used often, you might be able to find a really nice one for not so much money. Mine has speeds (nice if you have a little hill or two..and sometimes little hills don't seem like hills until you're on a bike). As for comfort..try it out first, try a friends bike. Also..you can purchase replacement seats if you have special needs and the one size fits all seat doesn't fit.

depends on how much you want to spend. If you are on a tight budget, then as the others said, an under 100 dollar model cruiser would be suitable. If you want a good quality branded model, I would suggest either TREK or GIANT hybrid base models

brand doesn't really matter, what you should do is buy an old road bike and convert it to a fixed gear bike, much more fun and a better workout.
