My best mates just moved in with a girl and she has totally taken over his life. He does'nt come out any more and when he did come out, she threatened to smash his face in for spilling a drop of beer on her. Any advice please?

Sorry, but he's a big boy and he'll have to deal with this himself. They've just moved in together, so he's a lot more invested than he was. Maybe if you talked to him before they moved in together, it may have opened his eyes. At this point, though, he's past intervention.
Just be there for him as a friend...keep inviting him out, don't forget about him even if he always says no. Hopefully one day he'll see the light.

The best thing maybe too do....is when you do see him; point out things about the situation without placing blame and asks what he thinks about it. It sounds like he's in a very controlled environment. But ultimately, it's his decision on what to do to get out. If it's a self esteem issue for both (it is for her) that will lead to more trouble.
