fold the ear open and put in the eardrops then fold the ear back down and rub the ear around (your dog willl like it) my dog would kick her leg lol then wipe out the ear with a cotton ball or wipe. if you do use a qtip just be careful and just go around the edge and don't stick it down in the ear canal.

You never mess with a dog's ears on your own! Always consult a vet, and if something has to be done, let the vet handle it. Dog ears are extremely sensitive, and if you do anything on your own, you can severly damage their hearing. Their hearing is extremely good, and it would not be wise to do anything without a vet's consultation. Be sure that you have a vet that's lisenced, and knows what they're doing. Never, ever use wet cotton. That can get into your dog's ears and stick there, damaging their ears forever.

This is how my vet told me to clean my basset hound's ears:

In a squirt bottle (Like a hair dye bottle or something similar) mix vinegar and alcohol, about half and half.
Gently squirt this in the dogs ear, do not use to much pressure.
Hold the ear closed and massage.
Gently wipe the inside of the ear with a cotton ball or soft cloth.

Flash hated this, but he eventually got used to it. Cleaning uur dogs ears is a must, especially if he has long or floppy ears.

There is a "drying" ear cleanser your vet can give you that is better than the ones at the pet store. Soak a Q-tip with it and gently go into their ear, their canals are longer than ours, so you don't have to worry about damaging his ear drum. Then swab out the visible part of the ear with a cotton square or round again with the solution. Cotton balls can leave bits of cotton in there. If your dog has flop-over ears do it once a week. My dog is very prone to ear infections but if I do it weekly he stays in the clear.

You can use wet cotton, just make sure to squeeze out most of the water, or your pooch may end up with an ear infection. You could also use "Ear Clens" pads. You can get them at PetSmart or you can get another brand online at Doctors Foster and Smith. Both brands work well, but, honestly, I like the results I get better from the "Ear Clens".

"Earoxide" a gel-like liquid is the BEST. As a show dog mom (currently have 2 dogs in the Top 10 and 25 of their breed) I use it when I give a bath - just squeeze it in, rub the base of the ear shell and they will shake it out - you don't have to fuss with cotton swabs or anything!

There are commercial ear drops you can get from your vet. You put in your dogs ear and then wipe the exterior afterward with a very soft cloth. Don't put anything but drops down the ear canal.

Never use Q-Tips in your dogs ear. You risk doing damage to their eardrum. Wrap a kleenex or piece of gauze around your finger and gently wipe the ear. If the dog's ears are excessively waxy and/or dirty, use ear drops specifically for dogs.

wipe outer part with warm damp wash cloth don't put anything in the dogs ears unless it is a cleaner vet recommends especially do not use peroxide as all it has in it is water and hydrogen - hydrogen bubbles off and water stays in there.
