I've not had throat Cancer, But I Am in the Medical field, I have seen it all from "throat Cancer" to colon Cancer to Lung cancer.... Throat cancer has various names.... cancer of the glottis, vocal cord cancer, laryngeal cancer. a Major Symptom AND Sign (I want to clarify at this moment a Sign is something you can see or hear physically or a Doctor can ie weightloss.... while a symptom is something you feel ie nausea) Anyhow a major sign is weightloss, if your suddenly dropping pounds like there is no tomarrow it tends to be a good indicator, HOWEVER different people react differently to cancer other signs/symptoms vary Hoarseness that does not resolve in 1 to 2 weeks, Sore throat that does not resolve in 1 to 2 weeks, even with antibiotics ,Neck pain ,Difficulty swallowing ,Swelling in the neck , Cough ,Coughing up blood ,Abnormal (high-pitched) breathing sounds (Rhales and wheezing)...these are things to look for or question to your doctor.. Now throat cancer is a rare event in most females, and young males (Im not saying Impossible just rare) it tends to affect people 50 and older Men being 10 times more likely to develop it. An examination of the neck and throat may show cancer of the throat. The sputum may appear bloody. A lump may appear on the outside of the neck. A laryngoscopy, which is examination by use of a tube with a small lighted camera (laryngoscope), allows the physician to look into the mouth and down the throat to see the tumor, A neck or cranial CT scan or cranial MRI may show throat cancer. These tests will also help determine if the cancer has spread to lymph nodes in the neck,Biopsy and analysis of tissues that appear abnormal may confirm the presence of a cancerous tumor. Treatment is aimed at destruction of the cancer and prevention of spread of the cancer to other parts of the body. When the tumor is small, either surgery or radiation therapy alone can be used to eliminate the tumor. When the tumor is larger or has spread to lymph nodes in the neck, combination radiation and chemotherapy is often used to preserve the voice box and is successful in most cases. Surgical removal of the tumor, including all or part of the vocal cords (laryngectomy) may be necessary in some cases. If a laryngectomy is required, a surgical prosthesis (artificial vocal cords) may be implanted, voice aids may be used, or speech therapy may be recommended to teach alternative methods of speaking. Many patients also need swallowing therapy after treatment to help them adjust to the changes in the structure of the throat. Diagnosis can vary DEPENDING On the person, some may not show symptoms for MONTHS (which of course are months of cancer spreading) and some may show them almost immediately, it depends on how the body reacts... I recall a patient that was healthy.. complaining of a cough and spitting up blood... had been doing it for roughly 2weeks.. I threw on a Mask assuming it to be Tuberculosis... they had the weight loss the cough the bloddy sputum, and it was throat cancer...They had an Xray of their chest, No TB.. Cancer likes to mimic other illnesses, it camoflauges itsself, a Doctor hasty in diagnosis may diagnose you with something completely differnt, Im not saying be a paranoid hypocondriac HOWEVER In an event that you experiance several of thos factors it is best to go ahead and get checked out..Just to be safe....

I can't answer all your questions but my wife's cousin had throat cancer that was discovered becuase his voice got raspy sounding and a lot of sore throats. He had surgery and the tumor was removed. I don't know if he had chemo after that or not but he has been cancer free for about 20 years!

Getting both is a double whammy to the system. It will be like fighting Mike Tyson he will be hit hard and fast. At the radiation ward I talked to somebody that is having both done and he said it is very hard to do. One is bad enough like chemotherapy, but you don't have to go to chemotherapy daily like you do with radiation. He should be able to communicate in some fashion, eating could be tough. He will need to consume good proteins to help rebuild his body as it is being torn down. I still say a good homemade chicken soup is a good thing to have around. As the treatment continues on a weekly basis, your dad will feel the effects become harder to take. My friend has a guard in his mouth that protects his teeth when he does radiation. He is only on the second week of both chemotherapy and radiation and he is having a tough go at it. One thing to remember is that people react differently to both treatments. Fatigue will be a big factor. Your dad won't feel like doing too much. Get well fast to help him. The hardest part of being a care-giver is to see your loved one in pain. We are on the last week of radiation and she is hurting. I caught her crying because her skin is blistered. If it gets too bad for your dad, talk to his oncologist. They could miss a few treatments if it is needed. Communication will be most important. Going through this will bond you more then any other time both of your lives. I wish you a speedy recovery, and your dad a great outcome from his treatments.

Weight loss, Neck pain ,Difficulty swallowing ,Swelling in the neck , Cough ,Coughing up blood ,Abnormal (high-pitched) breathing sounds (Rhales and wheezing) are things to watch for.

Five hundred years ago, people said the world was flat. Today, people say that if the FDA and AMA haven't blessed something, it can't be real good. Well, here's something I know to be real AND good. It's a little different take on cancer treatment--

In 1990, I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 3-B, but I've survived. My doctors were great people, but they were limited to surgery, chemo and radiation by profitable AMA treatment policy. During the year in treatment, I started learning about alternative medicine. I'm a retired engineer, and this is what I've pieced together--our IMMUNE SYSTEMS become weakened by poor nutrition, lack of exercise and reduced oxygen. Once that happens, our body becomes vulnerable to common STRESSORS. Stressors can be environmental, like viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, food additives, electromagnetic waves or pollution. They can be internal things like emotional or job stress, or poisonous people in our lives. Aging is also a contributing factor. So this means:

WEAK IMMUNE SYSTEM + STRESSORS = DISEASE (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.)

Our bodies have 60 trillion--yes, trillion--cells, and there are always some mutating into cancer cells, but a healthy immune system kills them before they have a chance to get a foothold in the body.

It takes a LONG time, usually, or a high level of stressors, to weaken the immune system to the point where it won't do its job, but once cancer has formed, it will generally spread rapidly.

THIS IS IMPORTANT! There are ways to BEAT cancer that are currently being used in Europe and around the world, and there are some great books on the subject. I know because I've read about 50 of them from cover to cover. Here's a list of the best ones. Some are out of print and getting hard to find--

"The Cure for All Cancers", ISBN 0963632825
"The Cure for All Advanced Cancers", ISBN 1890035165
"A Cancer Therapy", ISBN 0882681052
"Oxygen Therapies", ISBN 0962052701
"Hydrogen Peroxide--Medical Miracle", ISBN 1885236077
"The Natural Cure for Cancer--Germanium", ISBN 0533071410
"Killing Cancer", ISBN 0705000966
"Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About", ISBN 0975599518

I know of people whose cancer has 'spontaneously remitted' (WENT AWAY for no known reason) AFTER they went on programs of herbs and nutrition to restart their immune systems.

You and your family must look out for yourselves to stand a chance of being healthy. This is not a joke, and I'm not selling anything--just trying to help.
I am using the things I learned in those books right now to fight off a second infestation of cancer. I've been at it for over a year now, and think I'm going to make it. Use what works for you, and pass on your success. Best of luck.
