No. Even wars that are made with religious excuses are actually political. There are no wars without a political component. Politics seems a more logical suspect to blame

No, it's the number one excuse, especially of people who haven't studied history. Most wars are about power, politics, and resources. For example, the first Crusade was sold as a "holy war", but the motivational forces were the large number of armed knights in Europe with nothing to do, and politics with the byzantine empire.

I shudder when I see this question asked as a justification for anti-religion as it's about the same level as "If we came from monkeys, why are there still monkeys."

no its human greed for money and power.

religion is just used as a way to control the masses in to fighting for those who want the money and power.

Religion is not the only way to do it either. Nazism, Fascism, and Communism showed that ideological state loyalty can be replaced with faith and people will still wage war.

What religion(s) are you calling Western? All of the major religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam,etc.) originated in the East. Check your geography.
