In the U.S., there's one way to do steak right - a little salt, a little pepper, toss it on a hot grill over mesquite until done the way you like it (most guys, I've noticed, like steak on the rare side). We do 5 minutes the first side, 2 or 3 the second.

Make sure the grill is HOT though - the flames should have died down a bit before putting the steak on. This insures that the steak is juicy inside.

Serve with baked potato and green beans.

Cup of coffee and pecan pie after if you really want to do it right!

Have fun!

The simplest way would be just to fry or grill it. To guarantee the success, the most important is the quality of the steak; frying stewing steak for 5 minutes would turn it into a piece of leather! Ask the butcher for advice. Then you need to know the "doneness" or, whether your husband prefers it well done, medium or rare & you adjust the cooking time accordingly, on average size steak 4-5 minutes for rare, adding a bit more time for the others. What you serve with the steak depends on how simple or fancy you want it to be, plain but well present, or with sauces, top with grilled cheese or pineapple....endless variations.
Bon appetite!

Pan fry it, pop it on a warmed plate to rest a minute, and while its doing that put some creme fraiche in the pan you fried the steak in and all the juice will come off and make a nice sauce, bob in some green peppercorns to make a pepper sauce, or a nice blob of whole grain mustard.

Pour this over the steak, and serve with some chunky chips and a salad.

To check how well it is done prod it with your finger. If it feels like the cheek of your face its rare, if it feels like your chin its medium, and if it feels like your forehead its well done.

When you pan fry it use a non stick pan, fairly hot, and use just a little vegetable oil to fry. Will sizzle and spit a lot, but if its not hot enough you wont get nice crispy bits.

Steak is actually really easy to cook - rub a bit of good quality (if possible) oil on each side and some salt and pepper. Put it in a hot frying pan and if there is an edge with a thick bit of fat on it push that down on the frying pan for a minute (something to do with the fat helping to seal the meat - I don't really understand why but it works!). Fry for about 4 mins on each side. The cool tip to know how well done it is is that if you push it and it's rare it will feel the same as pushing your cheek, medium it'll feel like your chin, and well done it will feel like your forehead - honestly - I didn't beleve it at first either but it really does work - I think the person who told me read it in a Jamie Oliver book. Happy cooking! xx

Fry it in a pan until browned and crispy on the outside... (Not too long)
remove and add some olive oil
Put chopped onion, chopped mushrooms, some shallot
fry until golden
deglaze the pan with some red wine and a little sugar
reduce a bit until it comes together
add a few pats of butter
pour over meat.
Salt and pepper at the last.

Serve medium rare.

marinade the steak in whatever flavours sound like your husbands taste. i like s & p and small and some beer. heat pan till smoking then add oil then steak for 3 mins each side then shot of brandy in pan with steak, it will flame until alcahol burns off, not long, try not to burn house down!! just take pan away from heat if too many flames. then put to rest on side for few minutes b4 serving it will taste fandango! serve with trimmings and sauce. i like roquefort chilli and mushroom sauce, add the juice from pan to this sauce. You are guaranteed a night of passion in return for your efforts

Pan fried in very hot olive oil. For me fillet is the nicest. Do a nice sauce to go with it. Mushrooms, onions, cream and brandy is yum.
