It could be wax, but if it looks like coffee grounds it's more than likely ear mites or a build up of yeast in your cats ears.
If either of the last two are the case you'll need to take kitty to the Vet for proper treatment.
Don't but OTC medication, they very seldom if ever work properly.

Could be ear wax, dirt and/or ear mites. The best way to treat them is to put baby oil on a Q tip or cotton ball and massage the oil into the cats ear. That should get rid of any mites, dirt or wax and keep the ear clean. You could probably repeat this twice a month although you may not need to do it that often. If using a Q tip make sure you do not "poke" into the cats ear as you would not want to hurt the inner ear.
Good luck, hope this helps!

It could be just wax, but it could also be eat mites. The vet can determine this by taking a cotton swab of it and placing on a glass slide to look at under a microscope. Then be able to see the mites if they are there. Will give you a treatment to take home and use in your cats ear to kill the mites. Need to check this out cause it'll drive the cat nuts with itching. Is also transferable from one cat to another. Go see the doc.

It could be ear mites. The brown stuff is their poop. Clean it with a wet cotton ball. It would be best to take him to a vet and the vet will give you a medication you can put in the cats ear canal. You do want to get rid of ear mits with medication. The poor thing is probably in a bit of pain.

a lot of people assume this is earmites, but it could also be a yeast infection or something else. All are easily treated, but take different treatments, so the best thing is to have your vet swab a sample and look at it. In the meantime to make your kitty feel better you can use a cotton ball (not a swab, you can hurt the inside of the kitty's ear), dip it in olive oil and wipe out the ear, that is a safe natural way to sooth it and clean it.

If your cat is digging at its ear and scratching it could be ear mites. This can be treated with drops purchased from your vet. There are some over the counter medicined but I don't know if they work. If its wax you can buy ear cleaning clothes from the store or a cotton ball with ear cleaning solution.

It could be ear mites. Is your cat itching at his ears? One of my cats had gunk in his ears and I thought nothing of it, but when the vet saw him for something unrelated, they said it was ear mites. They gave him an injection that cleared it right up (and another 2 weeks later to kill any eggs), and they gave me a cream to rub in his ears every night to help with the itching. He didn't seem to be itching much at all, but the cream did help to break up all the gunk.
I'd take him to a vet right away if you have other pets, ear mites are highly contagious. The injection wasn't very expensive... I think it was around $20.

It is ear mites. You can go to any pet store & buy an ointment for treating it. I used to use just plain sweet oil & it works fine too. Sweet oil is hard to find today tho. Drug stores usually carry it. The ointment works the same way. Apply to the cats ears. You may want to apply with a clean Q-tip. Reapply several days later. Basically I believe the oil suffocates the mites & they die.

It could be either wax or earmites. I use Little Tiger to clean my parents cat's ears for them. You just squeeze a little in at a time, rub their ears, and then use a q-tip to get the stuff out. It makes her a lot less itchy.
