It is really common for little boys to not want to interrupt play to go potty! I think MOST boys had this problem. I had a potty I carried in my trunk and would actually whip it out at the park. I'd open a car door to shield things and no one ever saw anything. I also had this collapsible potty, I can't remember where I got it but it was only $10 and was smaller than a laptop computer once it was folded up, and it was very light, so because my son would not go on a regular potty, I would carry this collapsible one in a bag and he'd use it in the bathroom at church or a mall or grocery store. This phase did not last long but it was worth toting the potties around! Parenting does strannnnge things to people!!

ok, some of these people who answered your question do not have boys. Hellooooo........letting them pee outside will not harm potty training. And they will not be peeing all over your house. Come on, these are not dogs! These are little boys. Let's give them some credit.
I never carried a potty with me. And my son pees outside if we are at the park. We have taught him the concept of privacy though. All of my friends with boys do the same thing if a bathroom is not close by.
My son is 3, and potty trained. We had a lot of accidents at first, but if we were out, he dropped his pants and went behind a tree. Just keep it up, bring along a change of clothes everywhere, and do not limit yourself to just home. He'll get it soon. Good luck!

The key to potty training is consistency. He has to learn that the ONLY place to go potty is in a potty. Once he is fully trained, it is OK to let him go outside, depending, of course, where you are and as long as he understands this is not where "big boys" should go. While you are training, he has to learn to go into a bathroom or he will want to drop trow anywhere in the future.
Remember, you are the parent. You MAKE him go inside. If he gets wet, then let him be wet for a few minutes, he'll get it.
I used to make my son go to the bathroom every hour whether he had to go or not and he was trained in 2 weeks.
Good Luck!!!

take him back inside to the potty never teach a child to pee outside,. thats a crime for one thing. do you squat and pee in the yard no so why should your son pee outside. go back inside to the bathroom,. also go before you go outside and plan for this. if away from home put a pull up on him. saves him embarrassment. go potty before you leave to walk the dog too. use your head

Potty training means potty training..not teaching him to pee in the garden. It sounds to me like he is not ready to train yet.

Get him the pull-ups that make the cold feeling when they pee....also make sure he goes potty before you take him outside and immediately when he gets back inside

You definitely shouldn't teach him to go outdoors!! He's a child not a dog. I have a daughter- we worked through that without me having to teach her to pee outside.

If you let him pee outside, he'll soon be peeing all over your house inside. Keep it in the bathroom.
If he won't pee in the toilet, he's probably not ready. Don't push him.

We had a private backyard, and I let mine drop his drawers where ever he needed. If we are at a park, we go behind a tree. He's 5 now and has no problems going anywhere I tell him to. Whatever you do, don't put him back in diapers, it will regress him.
