We're thinking of taking a cruise (Key West and South) in late summer/ early fall. That's just smack in the middle of Atlantic hurricane season. Is it riskier? Is it cheaper because of it? Any thoughts/ suggestions?

Cruise ships have state of the art weather and navigational equipment. If a hurricane is coming they get plenty of notice and can move out of the way. The biggest danger is the substitution of one port for another at the last minute. I'd rather be on a ship during hurricane season than a land based resort. You'd be trapped once they close the airport.

The prices go down after Labor Day - so it is not necessarily cheaper because of the seasons - book it and by the cruise insurance - or change your plans and head North - we cruised up to Canada late last summer and it was great - no hurricane worries and a great break from the 100 degree temps we were having in Maryland.

You run the risk of getting stranded in a foreign land, with no money, unknown language, customs and traditions... or end up like Robinson Crusoe... IF you are lucky. In short, No, it isn't worth it.
