I only need to design certain sections/islands of the shopping center, I'm not sure how to convert to a larger scale.

get the CAD files and change the scale, then work on the areas you need to.

'enlarging' on a copier throws the scale way off.. it may be close here and there, but on the construction side, it is very unreliable.

1"=30' is fairly uncommon for scale (at least what I work on). Also, the original plans should be dimensioned, and that is what you should use, not scaling from it.. use the architects dimensions.

go to office max or office depot and buy a drafting scale. it's a triangular shaped ruler, with 10 different scales printed on it. i'm sure one of the scales will suit your needs.
