Crufts is just a dog show. The dogs get treats for responding to commands. I doubt they think they're being abused.
Nobody breeds just for Crufts. A dog show is a venue for the exhibition of breeding dogs, as part of a person's breeding program. If the people breeding Pekingese are having issues with genetic eye problems (and I tend to believe that the rumor about Pekes' eyes "popping out" is nothing more than an urban legend, similar to the idea of Pit Bulls having a "locking jaw") in their breed, they can and will do something to correct it.
No conscientious breeder would ignore a horrible genetic problem in order to further their own glory.

Crufts isn't the only coach. canines have been shown lots in different shows to get to crufts. that's how canines exhibiting works. I coach my canines. i will certainly say there is a lot that is going on backstage that some does no longer precisely define as humane. regardless of the undeniable fact that, "yanking on canines" is oftentimes a easy correction by making use of squeezing the hand, because of the fact the tip of the lead is generally under the canines's neck, and you do no longer somewhat pinch or tug on jowls, you in straight forward terms carry them so the canines would not turn to smell the choose. i do no longer somewhat think of that's merciless. i do no longer do something merciless to my canines. The canines all filled in crates mutually are generally doggies, or canines all owned by making use of an identical individual, so that they typically stay mutually and are happier vacationing mutually. Crufts is conformation judging. that's no longer relating to the canines obeying. that's all approximately how the canines have been bred. shows like crufts are benched shows, the place the canines are caught there for hours an afternoon with the proprietors. maximum folk attempt to stay away from small benched shows, because of the fact that's totally tolling on the proprietors/handlers, and the canines. maximum canines shows you're taking place, set up, coach, and pass away. yet at benched shows, there are hours you will possibly be able to desire to stay there (generally 8am-5pm) so human beings can come and puppy canines and ask questions.

i've been to crufts for the last 6 years running, and it is a really good place for people with dogs to go. The place is full of vets roaming about answering questions and checking out the saftey of all dogs showing. Also dogs are very well rewarded and regularly walked outside the buiding to ensure they hvae good ventilation and chance to stretch their legs and do their business. I think it's a good thing to keep dog shows running as it teaches people about the different breeds and what characteristics are good for different pets, working dogs etc. The only problem i have with crufts, is it's a very long day for them, and they are constantly looked at or fussed, although my friend shows dogs, and he says they love the attention.

Crufts was really good this year, the dogs looked really happy to be showing off, they had exercise areas and relief areas, they seemed to enjoy all the attention from the spectators and looked well loved by their owners. the trade stands were great with lots of opportunity to buy doggy bits, I thought it cruel that us humans had over an hour wait to get into the main arena to see any of the shows, and that a double brandy and coke was £8, but will still go again next year.

I don't see where Crufts physically harms dogs, so I'd say that Crufts is not cruel.
If you feel that a breed standard might not be beneficial to a particular dog, you should contact that breed's parent club and discuss your concerns with experts in the breed..

Not at all. Show dogs, except for the fact that some of them spend alot of time in Kennels, are the best cared for, most spoiled and loved dogs in the world.

I don't think dog shows themselves are cruel. The dogs that are shown are extemely well cared for and dogs that are successful at showing generally enjoy the attention and excitement, otherwise they would not be successful at it.
The protruding eyes of pekes is part of their breed standard - they don't pop out, but they are more subject to injury because of it. Lots of odd problems come from the way man has manipulated dogs in breeding over many centruries - for example, dogs with pushed in faces such as bulldogs often have breathing problems. But the problems with selective breeding began long before dog shows became popular.

I think it is. Some traits are so over-bred into dogs that they suffer. And, on a different level, they aren't, allegedly, allowed to drink while they're there in case they pee where they shouldn't. Don't know if I believe that though.
