Is the food dry or wet? What is the floor like? Who's house am I in? The answer can vary greatly. In my parents' house I'd apply a 3-5 hour rule. In mine, maybe 1 second.

I cannot see how one's religious faith has much to do with easting food off the floor. For me, the relevant questions are what is it and how hungry am I? If I drop a prime rib roast on the floor I am still going to eat it. If I drop a goldfish cracker, the dog can have it.
