Beta means that it's test software and it's not completely finished. It may have newer features, but it could be buggy.

beta is a testing version not ready for full release still as bugs in it

now if your using limewire to pirate movies and music stop right there and read on how many people are getting caught with the copy right watch dogs and the fines that are being dished out,,, $10.000 to $100.000 depending on what you have pirated... 70,000 people have been caught

Beta software is released to test bugs with a larger audience. It is made as a pre-release version to make sure they have everything cleared up before it goes out to everyone. It will probably crash, but that is the point...so that they know what causes it and they can fix it before it gets released in the final version.

when ever you see beta it is a prerelease that may have bugs and are for test purposes only!!
