during the school day to say their own prayers?
Do you think they all have the discipline and the right habits to do so for themselves?
Do you think it is important for this to take school time, or do you think that they should
have said their morning prayers before they left for school? Don't you think they might need the assistance and company of their parents for their morning prayers?
Why is it so important that their prayers be made in school? Home is not good enough?
It should be!!!!!

P.S. If instead of a special TIME for prayers, would it be better if children were given a spcial ROOM in school where they could pray all during school hours, regardless of the time .... because If Muslims are asked to pray 5 times a day, they need more than a morning prayer time ... The room need not be more than something neat and clean, with a nice quiet atmosphere ... perhaps with some fresh plants and flowers and a nice rug on the floor .... and some benches to sit on ...... please say what you think...

In some religions like Islam it is necessary for the children to pray during school. Muslims pray 5 times a day and two of those prayers count as being said in school so they are committing a sin by not praying in school. Then again it isn't their fault because the idiots schools in the USA are run by Christan's. Yes I think it is important for children to pray in school. It's not going to kill anybody if children pray during school time. I think it's a good idea. Yes I do think that they have the right and discipline to pray for themselves.

Now you are infringing on religious belief. Some religions require prayer at certain times of day, which school and work conflict with. If kids can daydream or meditate, what can be wrong with prayer? And anyway, one can always pray silently inside their mind - which is exactly what I did before each test and for my prayers during the school day. I think this is a non-issue and people, you included now, are just looking for an excuse to argue about something.

People try to force the prayer time into the schools (we have it in our state) because they just can't give up on the 'prayer in schools' thing. It's so bizarre that they feel the need to evangelize to others in the USA. I'm fairly sure everyone here knows about Jesus.
They want prayer in schools because they can't accept, truly accept, the diversity in this country, and they want every public place to still be like little villages comprised of just a few families where the leaders were free to terrorize whomever they wished.
Neither prayer, nor time for prayer, should be part of the school day on a group level. All children are free to pray to themselves anywhere at any time in this great country. That is certainly enough.

Certain religions require prayer at certain times during the day and if a parent requests that their child be given this time for prayer it should be honored. Otherwise religion should be kept out of school. Each child's parent should be teaching their morals and religion to their child. It is not a schools right or responsibility to teach these things to our children and setting out a certain time of day for prayer will lead to children asking teachers questions that should be answered by parents. Personally I don't want a school teacher influencing my child's religion.

I think it's great. Children who are being raised in active christian homes are taught to pray without ceasing. Communication with God is and should be an all day thing. If the school wants to set aside so much time for prayer or perhaps even bible reading, those who do not want to participate don't have to. It's not any different to playing sports, playing an instrument, joining a school club, engaging in class discussions, using lab equipment in Science, creating art, choir, etc. . . Time is made for many things that aren't necessary. Would you take away recess in grade school? How about study hour in the higher grades? Why people are in such an uproar about God being in the classroom is beyond me.

Some religions have special prayer times. I think that schools should let kids pray during school.
I see responses that kids should go to catholic school if they want to pray. Not everyone is catholic, maybe they want to pray too? It's not hurting your kids if other kids pray...
If the attitude is that kids should be learning math ect during school, then I guess kids shouldn't be let out for sporting events during tournament time either.......
If your kids don't pray...that's fine, but if mine choose to, they should be allowed to....as long as it's not inturrupting anything, witch it sounds like this proposal will provide time so it doesn't.

my high school had a bible study group, they met in the mornings before school and i know they prayed before and after the study started. that was the only religious thing offered at my school and i believe it was Christan. no other religions had groups, maybe it would be nice for others to come together with people who share the same religion as them even if it is at school.
after the bell rings and its time to start school, i don't think there should be time for praying during classes. only because not everyone is religious and not everyone share the same religions. i think it would be better before school.
some kids don't even share the same religion as their parents. so maybe they would like to get with other kids who share their same beliefs because they can't do that at home. the group at my high school was popular, so you'll be surprised at how many students might be interested in this. I don't see any harm in it, if done before school.

Either way, i think that they should pray before school and at shcool if they choose. My kids pray all day, ie: before lunch, before a test, etc. My kids can pray anytime they want to and I will stand up for that if they HAPPEN to be disciplined for it.
And god knows what they are saying even if they aren't saying it correct. They are innocent beings.

If parents want their children to pray then they should send them to a religious school. There is no place for prayer in public school.

I don't think they they should be given special time to pray. prayers can be said in your head at any time of the day. children who are school aged are old enough to know how to pray and do not need parental assistance. school is for education and that's it.
