He eats quite alot, about 31/2-4 cups a day. and i was just wondering bc i heard lots of good things about Nutro, and i want to switch my Dobie. I looked at the site and i liked what they said, and i looked at the ingrediants, and liked them. So how much is it for about 10-15 pound bag of dog food?

Or if you recomend something else, tell me what and how much i can get it for?

Also right now I am feeding him Purina BUT I HATE IT! but thats the only one he likes! but now its too-bad! hes eating a good dog food bc im not making him anymore food to replace what hes missing! I do it once in a while, but I cant every day. Im just too-busy!

Thanks!

I just switched to Nutro but then I will switch dog food every few months. Maybe I am silly but it seems my dogs (have 6 GSD's) will *stop eating* the same-O after a while.. I also like Royal Canine as they make it for shepherds. Another I like is Diamond and Eagle.

Your dog likes the Purina because of the sweetness.. molasses (sugar)

Any good quality food that meets AAFCO feeding standards and good quality ingredients and formulated for a large breed dog would be good. Nutro is a good brand overall. I have fed it to my dogs before successfully and also my cat. However I currently have a dog that is for some reason is allergic to all Nutro products, so i am not using it currently. But I know of no one else or any other dog with that problem. I am currently feeding Eukanuba Large Breed. I've tried some of the high quality super premium foods, but my dogs ended up diarrhea despite transitioning to the new food very slowly (which is recommended when you make a switch) and feeding less. Some of the Superpremiums are Eagle, Royal Canin and California Natural. Some people swear by them, but it just didn't work out for me.

When I first got dogs, I fed Purina - didn't know any better. It was awful and caused terrible allergies in my dogs. I avoid all supermarket foods now, especially Purina. My vet indicated it is due to all the additives and dyes.

I have a 1yr. old female blue Doberman who weighs 76lbs. Blues are notorious for having skin problems accompanied by thinning coats. I have tried a few different foods and although NUTRO ULTRA is good the best for her has proven to be DICK VAN PATTEN'S NATURAL BALANCE, which offers a variety of choices. The D.V.P. NATURAL BALANCE ULTRA PREMIUM rates off of the chart compared to nearly every other dog food compared in a recent study that my brother found online. Even though I love PetSmart, Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance is predominately sold at PetCo. If I knew how to attach I would attach the list of foods I have along with their rating and rules on how ratings were established. There are 61 dog foods on this list. Purina's Come-n-Get It rated the worst on this list and Merrick Wilderness Blend rated the best with the aforementioned D.V.P. Ultra Premium tying for second place. I hope this helps all dog lovers and not just my favorite breed.

Hi, I feed my Dobie kids Natural Balance by Dick Van Patten, and they love it. Since I started using this my males coat is a lot more healthier.. Many different varieties. Check it out on the web. If I am not mistaken I think it is classified as a 4 star food. Just type it in and hit search. Good luck.

If you are feeding a premium kibble, aka 'cr*p in a bag'

You can just as well feed a species appropriate food that will not harm your dog as kibble does.

Dogs are Carnivores after all.

Yes I am speaking of chunks of raw meat with some bone in.
Not ground and never fed grains or veggies because that is not what they were designed to digest.

You could start out with chicken leg quarters ,which has the perfect balance of meat/bone. Walmart sells 10# bags for $3.90 to $4.80 a bag. Compared to a mid-premium kibble at $1.00 a pound and up , raw is a bargain.

Millions of dogs and cats are eating kibble, suffering in silence from bad teeth and stinky breath, decreased longevity and quality of life, and underlying health problems.

Please get guidance before switching to raw.

I am on my 3rd generation of raw fed happy healthy dogs.

My only vet bills incur because of the State mandated 3 year Rabies vaccine.

My GSDs even the old guys have the sweet breath and sparkly white teeth of a yearling pup.
-and- NO ! .... kibble and doggie biscuits do not clean teeth ! Would you clean your teeth with a cookie ? lol

Love your dog and feed him well for a long healthy life.

Cheers,
Shirley and the Fur Gang ;-))

I tried Nutro and had no luck w/ it. My dogs coats looked good, but there was alot of soft stool and my dogs also started eating their stool. YUK!!!

I suggest Eagle Pack brand foods. They are a little more costly, but you can feed less and the end results are way worth it. Good nutrition ='s a healthier pet and less vet expense.

Medi-cal is a good canadian company but you have to get it from the vet. It has a great formula and is naturally preserved. and dogs LOVE the taste. If you are in the states, Royal Canin is great as well and you can actually get it Breed Specific. Im not sure if they have one for dobies but you can check with your vet or in a pet store.
