Wow - you should put your pooch on Letterman! Most dogs can't whistle at all.

do you mean he whistles through his nose like he may have a septum problem? or does he pucker up and begin a little ditty that reminds him of his days back on the farm. sorry I couldn't resist. my black lab falls asleep and makes a breathing noise the vet said it was nothing to worry about unless she gets up in the morning and is real lethargic and takes her a while to get moving this can be oxygen depravation and can lead to health problems. humans have it too and we have little breathing machines but dogs will need surgery to fix a deviated septum. if its coming from his chest I would think that its just something he does not to annoy you but he gets something out of it.

Omgsh! lol mines the exact same age! lol.

Yes completely normal!
I hate the sound but i cant help but laugh becuase this big mean looking doberman sounds like a squeeking squirrel or cat!

But yes, it is, they just do it when ever, Mine just did it a few minutes ago.i guess its a comfortable feeling in their chest or someting. Maybe he likes doing it before he goes to bed. But mines likes to do it when hes bored. Or wants something.
Dont worry, i have had Many, many, Dobermans since i was born, and they have always done this.

There might be a ***** in season nearby, and he can't help howling.
Is he in tact?
