Liza, ten thousand years from now, when we have long become spirits already, would you still think that the human life you lived today for, say, one hundred years give and take, has great significance in the order of things? I'm not saying that life is without meaning. It has very great meaning, and is actually pivotal to gaining eternal life. But my point is, in the context of eternity, the human life is just a tiny dot.
As for your second question, what makes us think that only matter and the spirit world exist out there? I believe that the spirits themselves evolve into something else, but not into human form. The mysteries of life are vast and great, but we can only think in terms of what we know for now.

In order to obtain the correct answer to this question there is need for more additional knowledge. We are given this human form of life and are sent to this material planets in order for us to learn a lesson. This material universes (also known as Hell) are full of miseries. Birth, disease, old age, death, constant anxiety and fear, etc. are the basic principles of this human experience. Is this lifetime better than the afterlife? It depends, if we carry out positive activities that will give us good karma, then our afterlife or future life will be better. We can see at present how there are people that are better off than others and the opposite. However the basic miseries are present in every status of life, whether the person is rich or poor, good or bad looking, with good or bad health. We must find the process that will get us out of this material Hell so we won't have to take birth again and therefore not have to suffer the basic miseries of material existence. That process is called Bhakti-yoga or the most elevated process to obtain perfection and stop the cycle of repeated birth and death.

For most Christians their hope is for everlasting life on earth as humans. We were created as humans because that is what we are. I once heard some one say that we are spirits trying to be human, but that is not what the Bible teaches. God created millions of spirit creatures before he created humans. He gave us this earth, which has everything that humans need to survive and flourish. He went to a lot of trouble making it just right for us. His plan for us to live forever upon it will someday come to pass.
Isaiah 45: 18 : "For this is what Jehovah has said, the Creator of the heavens, He the [true] God, the Former of the earth and the Maker of it, He the One who firmly established it, who did not create it simply for nothing, who formed it even to be inhabited: “I am Jehovah, and there is no one else."
Isaiah 55: 10 & 11: " For just as the pouring rain descends, and the snow, from the heavens and does not return to that place, unless it actually saturates the earth and makes it produce and sprout, and seed is actually given to the sower and bread to the eater, 11Â so my word that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted, and it will have certain success in that for which I have sent it."
The limited number of Christians that will go to heaven have a particular job to do...to rule as kings and priests and to aid in judging mankind along with Jesus.

Do you just want opinion? Because no one know for a fact. I think the whole delima to all bibles or books of knowledge is how we came down from spirit to be trapped in dence matter and what happens to our spirit (the electrons in your body that make you alive) when the dence matter wears out.

I don't think the people who respond to your question, can answer this with all certainty, because they have not experienced the afterlife.

All I know is that this life IS.
An afterlife is too nebulous a thought for me. I'm going to go with that I know.
