I've only ever heard one person saying that prawns were full of cholesterol - my Brother in law, so obviously this story is out there somewhere.

I have high cholesterol and my doctor told me to eat plenty of sea food. Especially oily fish. He didn't tell me to avoid prawns though.

Just found this on a medical question and answers site. Somebody asked the same question. This was the answer from Dr Caroline West GP:-

"You might be pleased to know that most experts now agree that eating fish, prawns and shellfish can be good for you. Although it's true that prawns and shellfish contain some cholesterol, they are also very low in saturated fats unless of course you are eating them battered, crumbed or fried. And it's saturated fats that are really the villains to be eaten sparingly. Prawns and shellfish are also worth including in your diet because like fish, they are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which are thought to promote a healthy heart. So if have cut shellfish out of your diet to reduce your cholesterol intake, you might want to think again. If you are interested in healthy eating and maintaining a good cholesterol level you might like to get a copy of Simply Healthy, the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute Cookbook (Ken Fin Books RRP $29.95). Funnily enough, it has a picture of delicious prawn dish on the front! Inside it has lots of low-fat, healthy recipes that are quick and easy to make. For further tips on keeping your cholesterol levels with in a healthy range, chat to your GP."

Prawns, shrimp, and most shellfish are high in protein, low in saturated fats, but do contain a lot of cholesterol. However, dietary cholesterol does not translate directly to blood cholesterol. The overall health benefits of this food are positive, and when consumed in moderation, prawns or shrimp can be a part of a healthy diet. What does moderation mean? I'd say a couple times a week is fine. Shrimp is certainly a better choice than red meat for those who need to watch their fat intake.

According to the Dr Johanna Budwig protocol, all shell fish are bad for you as they are considered to be the cleaners of the earth and are full of Toxins.. Which is especially bad for you if you have a serious illness.
I have bone marrow cancer and love to eat prawns so if anyone can show me evidence that eating prawns does not harm me, I would be grateful. My email is valmary75@gmail.com

ive never heard of shrimp with high chol., your friend may be full of it :).....note: not all fish is good for you....stay away from any predator fish (shark, tuna, etc) they have high levels of methyl-mercury....a study coming out in a couple of years will show high cancer risks with people who consume too much...regualr fish have omega 3 and actually prevent cancer!....so pick the right fish :)
