mmmmmmmmmm Spain was never 'freed" from religion. It's religous institutions and connected are the same that they always have been.
It was however freed from a facists government and men like Franco (who by the way the religions in Spain opposed.), Germanic Monarchies that ruled for the power of the original dynasty, Crown of Aragon, and Isabel and Ferdinanad who carried the Inquistions out on their own to root out those disloyal to the crown. But hey what do facts actually have to do with anything. Most Colleges offer history courses on Iberrian Peninsula you know.

depends on what religion you are "freeing" them from.
as if this country hasnt already been "freed" from religion.
where was religion during the genocide of the american indian?
where was religion during slavery?
where was religion when the mexicans were killed and had their land stolen?
where was religion when women were seen as property and not even allowed to vote?
where was religion when blacks were being hosed down with fire hoses by "law enforcement" and used as human chew toys by police dogs?
where was religion when the very same christians who complained about the improprieties of the Clinton administration stand by noticeably silent during the Bush administration debacles?
I am a christian. If people truly followed their religion, whatever that religion is, i truly believe that any society would be positively affected. The problem with this country is that a small percentage of christians make a lot of noise about certain issues, and no one ever gets to see from them the real reason for which Jesus stood.

...or Communist China. You do stand a good chance to get a country free of a lot of nice traditions, you know.
...Not to mention that, if you free a country from religion in the usual manner, you stand a high chance to get a good bloodbath.

I am an atheist but I think every country should have freedom of religion (not freedom from religion).
