I just asked the same question. I am 17 and I am ready to move out, I am going to college and working, and everyone I've asked says that it is legal.

You are not considered a legal adult until the age of 18, and so therefore still considered a minor at 17. so the answer to your question is no. If this person is having trouble at home, then they need to talk to parents to try an resolve the issues, this may require professional help....if there is abuse invoved, then it needs to be reported, so that appropriate actions can be taken. If it just a misunderstnad between the teen and parents because the parents will not allow the child to do such and such.....then it is because the parents love their child, and only wants the best for them...as I said in a previous post. the only thing that changes is time, clothing, and weather......all the other things that the teeens are going through......we parents have already been through it and all those things remain exactly the same.....that is why they say parents know best......you will understand this when you become a parent.....I was always famous for saying that my mother was old fashioned......well only in time......the things that I went through and decisions that I had to make.....well they were exactly the same, all the same sceniros as I had, and we all said the very same thing to our parents....unfortinunantly, it is not until you are grown that you realize this....having step children and hearing what they said to their dad and their mom....that was when I realized, that it was only time that had changed...nothing else....I hope that you and your friend realize this early.

17 is still considered a minor unless you get yourself emanicapted. By the time you get a lawyer and file the papers - you're better off waiting a year (one of my ex bfs checked into it when he was 17).
As a minor, you still need permission to drop out of highschool (my husband did it at 15 or 16) and you can't work full time if you're still in school.
You can look for an apartment, but you can't enter into a contract / lease agreement until your 18.
My advice is finish highschool. You probably only have a year left right? Don't make that mistake, you'll regret it. After that you can get a full time job and an apartment of your own. You'll much more luck with a high school dipolma anyway.

it's legal to move out. but until the person's 18, the parents can make them come back home. as for work, job, etc, once they move out, they need to find work & a place to live the same way adults do. i would strongly advise that they finish highschool. there really is not much of a future without at least a highschool diploma. then they will struggle evn more and never go back to school b/c they will need the $$ to pay for their living expenses.
it's a downward spiral at 17 to leave home and leave school. if there is any way the person can stick it out until they finish school, i'd be best. or at least continue with school once they move out. it's very hard to go back. everyone who drops out plans to but so few of them actually do go back.
be careful and think about the persons future. this could totally ruin their life. they have to make adult decisions that they may not be prepared to make.

no decide everywhere could uphold this. The STATE holds a discern legally responsible for a newborn till they're 18, whether the discern concurs or no longer. The discern can't sign a "settlement" which may well be in conflict with state regulation. Nor can a discern purely "provide" administration or criminal duty for his or her newborn to a various individual, with out approval of a court docket.

i think it just depends on where u live, every state has different laws, now like me i live in iowa. and i moved out whe i was 16 and my parents couldnt do any-thing to stop me, trust me they tried, but the police told them she is old enough and u cant stop her if she wants to leave. u need to check your state laws or call your local pd. and ask them what the laws r where u live.
