I can't believe the absalute crap the people on here come out with. If you want to know what to put on your tattoo phone the studio and ask, but PLEASE don't take the word of the mugs on here. Basically you must keep it moisturised while it heals (not with vaseline :) and the best thing to use is a form of skin healing cream. I was recommended babies nappy rash cream by one artist who swears by it and have to agree. It's quite thick and greasy so it stays on for a while and can even stop the scab from first forming which is ideal as the ink is drawn out by scabbing. Basically just ask a tattoo artist and ignore everyone else.

It's very normal for a tattoo to look dry for a week or two after the scabs have dropped off. It's all part of the healing process; this is fresh skin, basically, and it will take a while to settle down.
It's also perfectly normal for everyone on here to have wildly differing and completely contradictory opinions on what you should and shouldn't put on a tattoo!
Personally, at this point in the healing of a tattoo, I tend to keep just slapping a bit of whatever ointment I've been using on, (mainly 'cos that's what I have lying around the house, not for any clever-clever scientific reasons!) to moisturise it a bit and ensure it's healed properly. But I won't tell you this is the only correct thing to do. Apart from anything else, if all the scabs have dropped off and the skin over your tattoo appears healed (albeit dry) then you're unlikely to be able to do it much harm at this point, regardless of what you do or don't put on it.
But if you have any questions, then give your tattoo artist a ring for advice. It sounds like your tattoo is doing what it's supposed to be doing, though!
Hope this helps!

No-DO NOT put E45 or Vaseline on it-you will wreck your tattoo, all decent tattooists will tell you to leave it alone for 2 weeks after having it done! You mustn't put any form of cream/moisturiser/goo/etc on it.Just leave it alone to heal fully-a week is not long enough for it to be 100% healed,so hang on in there,I know you're worried & dying for it to be healed but have patience and chill out.
This time next week then you can put something on it-a fragrance/perfume free mild moisturiser like 'Simple' and only a very light coating rubbed well in. Vaseline is a big no-no,so is E45 at the moment.

I was told by mt tattooist to use savlon for 2-3 days and then use a frangrance free moisturiser for as long as desired. Having a bath/shower everyday after a tattoo for 2 weeks will help cleanse the tattoo gently and every other day helps the healing process too. Just dont rub too hard. So if your used to bathing or showering everday, try to do it every other day, allow you newly achieved tat to heal properly then show it to the world! lol

if its dry then its healing, leave it alone and let the scabs fall off DO NOT PICK IT not even a little bit or u will have uneven colour, the longer u moisturise it for the longer it will take to heal, itchiness is a good sign of the scab healing and getting ready to come off, dont itch either! it sucks i know but its worth it!!

Go see the tattooist who did your tattoo and ask them first, thats what they are there for! I have always heard that vasaline was supposed to be bad for tattoos!! I used E45 cream and mine was and is completely fine. And now I use just mositurize as normal, no worries.

i have 2 tattoos, and other members of my family have also got theirs done at the same tattoo studio as me, my son had his done last sat.we were all given the same advice,
to wash tattoo only with baby soap or dove morning and night, with warm water, pat dry with kitchen papertowel, to use vaseline intensive care cream, 3-4 times a day,its in a blue and white bottle or tube, its not like vasaline, its a lotion.not to soak tattoo in bath ect, and no swimming for 4 wks. keep it out of sun. dont pick any scabs.
i followed the advice given and had no problems at all.
we were told to go back for it to be checked after a week

Please ask the tatoo place that did the work.
Also ask a nurse or a doctor.
I believe it may be ok after 2 weeks, and I'd try antibiotic cream for the first 3 weeks- before v. to clean out any infection that could be there.
Treat it the same as any cut that you had on your hand or arm. You'd use antibiotic cream first.
GOD bless us always.

You are not supposed to but if you do... apply it lightly. Do not slather it on like lotion. It is suggested not to use antibiotic ointment like Neosporin because it will remove the color. It is better for the healing process but... don't do it.
If your tat is dry and itching or cracking... by all means use the Vaseline or Shea Butter.. Honeychild...

I do believe that you are suppose to put vasaline on it for up to two weeks. After that, put lotion on it everyday to make sure it doesnt dry up and fade.
