Well, we know more about what the Buddha actually thought than we do about what Jesus thought. We really don't know Jesus at all, actually. Just a few parables and stealing a donkey to ride into the city.

Jesus was obviously much healthier than buddha, and stronger too, so we have a physical role model there. And Jesus was a much more influential speaker than buddha, so in a bussiness sense, Jesus is also a great role model. Finally, Jesus was loving and died for people's sins, Buddha might have reached nirvana, and didn't want anything, so I rather stick to Jesus in the religious side also.

There you have it, Jesus is a better role model.

P.S. The only way Buddha is a better role model, is if you are a professional donut eater.

Definitely we can not compare them. Each avatar comes into the world suited to particular place, time and circumstances. Naturally there is bound to be differences in the methodology of their teachings though basic truth is one. Buddha has born as a prince completely isolated from the troubles of normal life. Whereas Jesus has incarnated in a very humble circumstances. Buddha has discarded all the luxury and parted from his beloved wife and son to seek the truth. He begged for his food and practiced intense meditation and finally He was able to ascertain the truth of human existence. He has found that all this is void, all this is pain etc. Whereas Jesus was convinced first that He is servant of God, second as a son of God, Third He and His Father(God) are one. He has come mainly to guide the people around Him towards Salvation etc. Buddha taught the world about Ahimsa(not to harm any being including animals) and He was compassionate. Jesus was also compassionate and Loved His enemies also. He bore no hatred towards those who crucified Him. So we can not compare both theoretically. nagarajan.

Both, in fact.
One man, the prince of the Shakya tribe found out that there is suffering in life. He made up his mind to understand why this is and how to eradicate it. He left no stone unturned and in the end he came up with an answer that set him free. After that, people started calling him the Buddha - the enlightened one.
The other, a man from Nazareth, heard God's voice and answered his call. He, too, had the same goal - to eradicate suffering and to set mankind free of it. In human terms, he paid the highest price for sticking to his mission but his work was never forgotten and mankind was never the same.

Just one minor difference: Jesus spoke of love and acted from love. Buddha spoke of peace and acted on peace. But both were relentless fighters in their own way.

The ethics they both preached are identical. Only the theology was different, and that is because they were of different cultures. Christian theology evolved from Hebrew theology, and Buddhist theology from Hinduism. If asked how to live life and treat your neighbor, Christ and the Buddha will answer identically. (But Jesus will more likely tell a story.)

Jesus, hands down. Jesus died for our sins so that one day we could live eternally with Him. What did Buddha do? nothing. Jesus is the most important person ever! and, He's the best role model ever!

Both are a great inspiration to me.

If you actually look, they are both saying the exact same thing. If you take out all of the nonsense that has been added to the Jesus story about dieing for peoples sins, the messages are nearly identical.
