I not only got along with both sets of in-laws, but his father and stepmother took me into their home during my last semester of grad school - and I was pregnant at the time. My husband was away for six months for military training.

The other set, his mother and stepfather, were the ones who encouraged us to get married in the first place.

There was no "magic" involved here; it was just a matter of treating each other with respect and caring, and that still works well.

Yes, their are people who actually DO get along well with their inlaws. But it is usually better to stay apart from ones inlaw, i think love endures, consequently more understanding by staying apart .Some people still stay under the same roof and still get along well with their inlaws. It is better for husband and wife to stay together in their own house.

I have been very lucky as in past and present I get along with my inlaws. My present inlaws are wonderful, beautiful people, and I see so much of my husband in them. My past in-laws loved me as I was so good to their son and their brother. Mothers particularly like me for their sons. In-laws are a part of the family and both parties have to want to get along, it takes some effort, but it your husband or wife loves them, you should do everything possible to let your partner enjoy their relationship with their family. It't just a win-win all around.

Your inlaws are your spouse's parents, not yours. When you are your spouse have a disagreement, inlaws tend to take sides with your spouse and not without thinking about both sides of the story. Inlaws are that way because your spouse is their child and your are not.

The thing is "Parents always take side with their kids than with others although their kids might be wrong."

Well I have alot of in-laws my husband is the oldest living child of 10 kids and they are all married and have children and grandchildren and for the most part I get along with all but two of my in laws, even though I really don't care for a couple of them I keep my feelings to myself and try to avoid them when possible, but during the holidays at my mother in laws house I am civil and polite to them its not that long to be around each other

I think people tolerate there in laws in order to get along. You need to be able to let stuff go. Parents in most cases never see there child as an adult no matter how old they are.

I have terrific in-laws. I get along very well with my MIL, FIL and SIL. I get along with their extended families and they like my family too.

As Frank Burns would say..."It's nice to be nice, to the nice."
