yes, but you're not supposed to use them on gas under floors or anywhere that isnt accessable but water is fine.

Yes, you can. I've used compression fittings on rigid copper water pipe for years. It's the ferrule that compresses against the pipe anyway.

But it's fun to solder up against wood... all that smoke, the flames, the sirens and the fire engines... so pretty.
