First of all, is there a theme? You can use your theme to word your invites.
This is what I used for my daughter's 3rd b-day with a Dora theme:

Please Join Us for a Fiesta to celebrate
(Your child's name)'s 4th Birthday!!!
on Saturday, March 24th, 2007
from 2:00pm until 5:00pm
at our house
321 Fake St.
City, State, Zip
Get ready to party!!!

RSVP
(phone #)
(email address)

Or start with
(Child's name) is turning 4!
Join us in celebrating!!!

This site has 100 different poems and limericks to use on your invites...both boy/girl themes, etc. It's a great idea.

We just sent out home made cards and inviting company to come for cake and ice cream to celebrate our son's birthday. We just stated the time and place and said come join us for cake and ice cream (we ended up providing food anyway because company stayed so long, so I'd plan on providing food and cake)

How about something simple like......."Your invited" or "Come celebrate my day with me" if you make your invites on the computer you can put your childs face on them under it.

"Please come to a birthday party!"

"I'm getting older and I want you to celebrate with me"

"It's my birthday, say you'll come"

On the inside write name, time, address, and phone number.
