cubes and other spices - what spices would you put into this meat gravy?

I usually put salt, green pepper powder, and garlic.

First, you make a roux. Equal parts of butter and flour... like 2 Tbsp of each. Mix well and heat in a skillet. You can get this as brown or keep it as light as you want. I'd put a bit of brown on it for beef gravy, leave it white for chicken gravy. Anyway, whisk in 1 cup of your broth (hot water + boullion cubes). Bring back to a boil, simmer 1 minute, then remove from heat. Season as you wish w/ your garlic powder, pepper, worcestershire, what haveyou.

Agree, plus a dash of worcestershire sauce, a slosh of red wine and thicken it up with some cornflour
