The only sure way to avoid the flu without getting the shot is to barricade yourself in your house and become a hermit until the flu season is gone. However, you can get the flu at ANY time of the year, not just during the winter as many misconceived notions dictate.

Even the flu shot won't always keep you from getting it. Make sure to take your vitamins, and wash your hands A LOT. Sanitize things like phones, doorknobs, etc. Anything that is touched.
I've never had a flu shot, and never had the flu either.

I got a flu shot and had the symptoms of flu for a month. Never again, I will take my chances.

I have not had a flu shot since 1946, and worked in hospitals. Immunity is the answer.

The flu shot doesn't prevent you from getting the flu, it just lessens the severity.
