I do a cicuit training class for fitness, strength and keeping my weight fairly even.

In the hall before my class is Weight Watchers. They were all sat down for an hour talking about point-scoring of what they were eating.

Do you not think that if they spent the hour doing some exercise instead, they would actually burn off some of their weight?

You have a great point there, but if you work out and then shove a 3,000 fast-food meal in your mouth, what have you accomplished?

Weight Watchers teaches what and how to eat. I'm not a member, but I'm constantly trying to be aware of the moment when I feel full. Perhaps after these new members drop a few pounds, they'll join your class to tone it all up!

Best wishes!

I have a eating problem not a lack of exercise problem. I love to exercise but also love to eat. So Weight Watchers is a perfect fit. Talking about what foods that are good for us, why we eat and how to socialize while eating healthy is all taught. It is like a group of friends getting together for 1 hour to talk. Do you exercise ALL the time and have no time to learn about something or have conversations with friends? I have been on WW for 5 weeks and I am down 13 lbs.

This is one of those things where personal opinions will clash. For me, i cant do a lot of exercise due to an ongoing back problem but i have been faithfully following the weightwatchers points plan since the 8th november 2006 and i am 2lbs away from having lost 3 stone, ive never felt better or more confident. i used to do weight training, boxing, karate etc when i was in my teens but these days i simply cannot be ar..bothered so this diet has been a godsend for me iv went from a 40" waist to a 30-32" in 4 months. i would recommend it to anyone.

Perhaps they work out before or after their Weight Watchers meeting! : )

I do agree that it seems a little silly at times, and Weight Watchers may not work for some people, but it definitely can for others. Having the support of others when you set out on a weight loss goal is extremely important.

WW is a support system that teaches you how to eat and teaches you portion control. They also teach that exercise is an important part of your weight loss journey.

I'm a believer because I lost 79 pounds going to meeting and listening to others. When nothing else worked for me WW did. The meetings are 30 minutes not 1 hour.

Exercise alone wont make you lose weight.

It's good that they are socialicing, but they could do other things aswell, beside point scoring.Being overweight, myself .it is awkwaward,as some people often look at you with disgust,if your walking down the street, and I think women are rather sensetive about that subject(weight). But if you slowly build up your routine, you'll reach your goal.I only eat oraganic food,so it can be more expensive, but well worth it.and last year I went to phisio (bupa, cardiff),because of an inturning leg/foot,I'd had since birth and saw claire, she was wonderful, for helping me to understand, each and every bone in the foot, and what it does, and she was the best,as she went out with the olimpic team and trained them,(with excersise). Now I eat 5 fruit&5 veg. a day,go on walks,as I'm surounded by beautiful mountains/valleys.

weight watchers gives you a support network if you have no willpower. If you cheat in a diet and the only person who sees the scales is you, you just shrug it off. If you have cheated and you get weighed in front of a class that is the height of embarrassment so you are more likely to stick to the diet, plus it teaches you how to eat the right foods.

They go to the weight watchers meetings for support.
Nobody spends every second exercising, they probably do it at other times of the week.

many years ago my mom went to weight watchers and she said she would starve herself two days before going just so in the weigh in she had lost weight. In those days if you had not lost weight everyone chanted "pig pig pig" and it not only humiliated them but after they all headed to nearest pub for crisps and beer. lol
Today weight watchers is much improved and many have lost a lot of weight I prefer rosemary Conery myself low fat diet, good excersise and i am loosing inches and toning scales are pants! I can see your point but a friend of mine goes for the support and her diet cards it is also expensive rather pay the fiver to gym myself.

I belong to ww online. It has helped me a lot. People that belong to WW do exercise and some of us are on the points plan. We encourage one another and exchange recipes etc.
Since we don't try to monitor your activities between your exercise training don't try to pass judgment on us or monitor our activities. Your time would be better spent minding your own business.
