its cheaper at outset to have a flat roof !!!! but long term its not ! a flat roof will periodicly need recovering 10-15 years ! a pitch and tiled roof will only need recovering in 50 + years

My house has a flat roof because the planning people at the council said that the extra height of a pitched roof might spoil other people's view (not that anybody has a view over house - but that's planning people for you).

Flat roofs are cheaper to build but wear out & leak quicker ...

Mortgage Companies don't like flat roofs, so main House has pitched roof (so it's easy to sell) extensions have flat ..

Flat roofs are cheaper but pitched roofs last longer and require less maintainance

I fink it is only the design of the buildings,but It is a good discussion, I will do more digging about the roofs
