Because the Bible is chock full of god-sponsored murder, genocide, infanticide, incest, etc.

Religion isn't the basis for morality. Religion points to a Creator who is the Giver of moral law.
Religion can be and often is used as a tool to manipulate people. Criminals in prison become religious so they can get parole, for example. This has nothing to do with a real faith in God.
If morality is subjective, it's pointless to even discuss it for it becomes just a matter of preferences. You like honesty and someone else prefers dishonesty and neither is moral or immoral. It makes no logical sense to say that people are immoral and then say that morality is subjective.

Because noone's perfect. It's the stereotype and expectation that all religious people are pius and perfect and live perfectly religious moral lives that's the problem. Noone can be like that 100% of the time. We're sinners. We sin.
When I was 20 I had my first drink of alcohol ever. I hadn't drank before, and when I did, all my friends at school were like "OH MY GOD YOU'RE DRINKING!" and they gave me a hard time about how I wasn't being true to myself now that I'd had a drink, etc. I've made my peace with God, and that's what matters.

Because most religions are false. But, there has to be a truthfull one. The truthful religion is the one who follows God's word right, worships the only true God along with His son Jesus Christ and follows Jesus' rule of preaching the word all the time. Also the ones who don't practice inmorality or do wrong stuff. Also Jesus said that in this we would all know were his disciples: IF WE ALL HAD LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER! Meaning: No killing of other people (War), and no mixing in political debates and fights.

Morality is subjective only in the sense that anyone could abandon it all together. Morality is a set of rules which prescribe how a society is best able to survive, and thus, is an evolutionary process. Stealing harms the tribe, as does murder and rape. Thus, they are wrong, as they hinder the survival of the tribe.
Religion is an explanation of how morality came about, just as a creation myth is an explanation of how we came to be.

Religion as we know it, is big business. I am looked down upon in my family because I like to read the Bible at home and discuss with my daughter and husband and friends. Because I do not give money to and actual church-standing structure I am not "practicing" a religion. Funny huh? I thought God was everywhere.
My daughters father is VERY religious and has done lots of immoral things. But hey! he's a deacon in the church. That makes it ok.
Me? I slip and slide sometimes but I try my best. Remember it isn't for us to judge. What my daughters father has done....it's ok. He has to answer sooner or later. As for me, I just try to live an honest life and He will judge me and all of my imperfections at an undisclosed date and time.
Don't judge but watch your back.

Power seeking priest have turned religion into a power struggle.
The Latin word "religare," from which "religion" is derived, simply means "to bind back." Thus, the religious function in the truest sense of the word is that which binds us back to the original wholeness from which we came. I think in modern times it is just a way to control people. I would rather be spiritual that religious.

Because few religious people are religious. ;) It's because most people who join a religious group are attracted to the ideas of the group, or feel being a member of that group makes them an elite, but they lack the whole heartedness to stand by the morals that group espouses once obeying them starts to cost them something. Perhaps its a bit of money, or a girlfriend. Who knows.
Most people, being people, don't live up to our own standards.

Religion isn't the basis for morality.
Look at the Old Testament, the Middle East and any deeply religious region of the world and you will find nothing but abuse, war, bloodshed and horrors.
Education and basic civility are superior to religion.

religious folk, even in the days of Jesus, were more self righteous than anyone... and they acted out their religion when they had less morals than anyone... many people 'attend' churches, but do not practice their faith... it is like they belong to a club and that one hour a week they act like they are part of that 'religion' and the rest of the week, they do whatever they please giving no thought to God
