Yes it probably is true. Atheist encompasses a large group of people. Many atheists have strong philosophies that do not include the existence of gods and others have no philosophy but they don't like the idea of a god. Others still, lost a loved one and became disgruntled theists.

Edit: I assume that when you say many people you are including theists.

If you're referring to the depiction of an old white man sitting on a cloud in heaven, then yes, you could say that people never "outgrow a child's comprehension"....

BUT HEY, GUESS WHAT..

Thats what they believe.
And no, I don't see the Divine as sitting on a cloud over yonder...
but I will say, S H U T U P ! ! ! !
Thats a generalization, and until you have the EVIDENCE from a SURVEY or a POLL, then shut the hell up!
I have no problem with atheists, but damn!!!

Yes possibly, but it is also a contributing factor toward traditional religious believers.

You think atheism is based on some sort of arrested development? If you really want to get to the bottom of some development issues closer to home why don't you spend some time thinking about why you are unwilling to spell out the word god. That practice is most inane.

It's easy...g...o...d.

on the contrary, most faithful believers remain so due to their adherence to teaching received at childhood, and refrain from reexamining these teachings in a mature and objective way.

Bingo. When God ceases to fit in the box we preordained for Him, we cease to believe in God, not our preconceptions.
