I'm just curious as to what, if any, requirements there are. I recently read where Al Sharpton became 'licensed and ordained' in the Pentecostal Church at age 10.

I find it hard to believe that any 10 year old has enough of a grasp of religion to be a minister, I know I didn't at that age.

But this raises the question, what qualifications do our ministers have to actually hold their jobs, if a 10 year old boy can be a minister?

Maybe Rev. Al is the exception to the rule, I'm not sure what he had to do to become licensed and ordained.

My husband is in the process of becoming a preacher with the UPC.

There are 3 different types of license. The first being a local license. You must have read the entire bible, along with the 7 books they require, and the ministers manual. There is a very long application you and your pastor must fill out. You must have been baptized in Jesus Name and received the Holy Ghost. There are other biblical requirements as well. You must have preached a minimum of 1 sermon a week for the 6 months prior to applying. Your pastor must evaluate your knowledge and the work you have done. After submitting your application you must go before the district board. We haven't gotten that far yet, but I am told that they are very thorough. They want to know that you know that God called you and you are not just wanting to be a preacher.

After receiving your local license you must work as an assistant pastor, evangelist, or the such for one year before you can apply for your general license. Then you must hold the general license for a period of 2 years before you can apply to be an ordained minister. Both of these also have reading requirements.

All of this is through the UPC, other pentecostal organizations may have different rules. I can't speak for them but I have a hard time seeing a 10 year old being ordained in our organization. I know of some boys around the age of 14-15 that have felt the call and possibly even began the process for their local license. But the ordained ministers that I know are adults.

Marriage regulations commonly selection by way of COUNTY, no longer even merely state, so be sure you have study the nice print/talked to the county clerk these days. there are various non-religious people who're legally allowed to accomplish marriages, yet i'm no longer able to stress adequate how significant that's to look into the regulations for the particular county in which you have an pastime in appearing marriages. the widely universal civil officiants are Justices of Peace. Do your study, and bypass forth turning out to be a member of human beings in legal marriage! =)
