I want to actually go out there and DO SOMETHING, not just donate money? I love animals! I also would love to help people in some way. Any suggestions?

I suggest that you contact your local volunteer center. They specialize in connecting you with local volunteer projects that match your interests and meet real community needs. Volunteer centers provide one-time and short-term projects. In addition, they can connect you with other non-profit organizations that offer longer-term opportunities.

Here are some links to help you find your volunteer center:

Through my volunteer center, I work at a children's shelter, food bank, and local libraries and museums.

Good luck!

That's a great approach. Too many people just scribble something on a check and send it along, with no real commitment.

It isn't so much the organization, but the type of work. You should pick something that you really enjoy. When you are motivated and do it with love, and have some level of attachment, you will make a real difference.

I think there is at least one website, volunteer america, but there are others you can search for and find something near you.

Good luck.

I have worked and volunteered for many shelters. The best way to find out what is open and who needs help is to go to your cities local DFACS. Tell them what you want to help with and they should be able to give you some information on who needs help. It's great that you want to help people!! Keep searching, and like myself, you will find something that you like to help with!! Good luck!!

google the word volunteer with the name of your town. I volunteered at the humane society for a lil while and that sucked- they made me clean up poo and treated me like poo too!
