I have the most lovely fluffy kitten, but i have a problem with poo being stuck to his fur, and it really smells.
I got in from the gym this morning and it looks like he has trod in his poo and walked it all through my house.
How can i stop this from happening? i have tried trimming it but it still finds a place to stick to.
Can i bath him? if so is there a special shampoo for kittens?
Pease help!

Thanks for all your advice guys, I found a couple fo fleas on him yesterday which i think is the reason for his soft stools, i did put some herbal flea stuff on his neck last week, but it looks like it has not worked, i am rather concerned though as i know this can be very dangerous to kittens.
I got him from a pet shop when he was nine weeks, they did tell me he was deflead so i dont know where they have come from, i do not have any other pets, so its a bit of a mystery??
does anyone know the most effective way to kill these fleas? and then also preventing them from returning.
I have also dewormed him.

There is a special shampoo for kittens.Alot of shampoos will say do not use on kittens under 12 wks, but there is a special shampoo and you can get it at pet stores and even walmart. Make sure you read the label. But yes it is fine to bathe kittens. I bathed my 6 wk old kitten when I got her from the pet store and the same w/ my other 7 wk old kitten. Although I never had a prob w/ the poo like you are saying.

There are many shampoos suitable for kittens in supermarkets, pet stores which are safe. You just have to avoid it getting into or around the eyes as it could cause irratation.
It would probably be a good idea if you groomed him often just so any fur does not become matted with him being fluffy which may help and it is a good idea that you keep his behind area slightly trimmed. There is not alot more i can say really although i do know where you are coming from as it often happens with our kitten too.I hope this can be of some use to you.Good luck.

Yes you can bathe the kitten. Use only a shampoo that is recommended for cats/dogs. You should be able to find this at any pet store - or even Wal-Mart. Don't let the kitten get chilled. Dry him with a towel and keep him warm until he is dry. Groom him with a brush (also can find a good one at pet store.) It is a good idea to get him used to you grooming him while he is young. He will love it. Sometimes cats need a little extra help with their grooming exspecially long hair cats. How long was he with his mother? This is how kittens learn about using the litter box , grooming and such. Best you can do is to keep the litter box as clean as possible. He's young but he'll get better as he gets a little older. I use scoopable litter and clean in the morning and evening. Are his stools too soft? Make sure you are feeding only kitten food until he's about a year old. Cats are considered adults at one year. Of course a vet can give you good advice on these things also. Good luck to you!

I have a fluffy cat also and she has the same problem. I trim off some of her fur in the business area and put more litter in her pan. (we use clumping type) I use a comb especially for long hair(pet comb) made of metal and comb out the chunks than wash off the behind. You can even use baby shampoo on your kitten just make sure that you rinse it out really good. I would probably wash just the butt and feet. Towel dry your kit and could use a blow dryer to help dry, just use on low heat. This may startle him at first but they usually like the heat once ya get going. This may be a thing you will need to do periodically so might want him to get used to it. I worked for a vet, did the bathes and this was what we did to dry them all. Hopefully you won't have a smelly kitty for long.. Luck to ya.

You can give your kitten a bath. Most shampoos will tell you the age recommendations. If the kitty has a poo problem, you really should bring him to the vets. He might have worms, or something making him have a problem going.

A pet store or groomer may have shampoo that is safe for a kitten that young. I suggest trimming the hair around her bum quite short regularly until she is able to clean herself. You may need someone to help you do that. I can't find any other info that would help, my only other suggestion is to call the vet and see if they have any suggestions.
Good luck, have fun with the kitten

Make sure his worming is up to date, and check his food, his stools should be firm and dry, not wet.
You can use baby bath. Its safe for small animals. Rinse him well and keep him warm for a few hours til he's dry.
But if you bathe a long furred animal, comb them first and don't rub them dry, it forms a layer of felt so you have to have them shaved.
If you bathe kittens they get used to it, same as bathing puppies; and some cats actually enjoy water. (not just Turkish Vans)

Yes you can bath a 10 week old kitten, be very careful and I would recommend not using any strong shampoo products. Baby bath is fine, once bathed keep the kitten very warm until it is dry.

Usually, which too long for me. I think it depends on the guy and also his face though. Certain guys can pull off long hair and others can't.
