Spacers are the little rubber circles that are placed in between the molars (back teeth) for a week, to push the teeth apart (making a small space) so that when the bands are placed there is room, so it doesn't hurt you when they push them into place on these teeth. They are used just to make room for the band placement and then they are removed. Hope I've been of some help in explaining this for you. Congrats! On the braces, you're going to love your new smile!

Additional info: they are sometimes slightly uncomfortable to some patients for the first couple of days. You only have them in for a week. The sensation is similar to a piece of food caught inbetween your teeth, like when you eat corn on the cob or ribs would be a good way of describing them. Only problem is you can't floss, or you'll remove the spacers! I've had them myself (about 40 years ago) before my braces and they aren't anything to be concerned about. Now I work in dentistry, so it couldn't have been all that bad! Ask your mom or dad if you can take some Advil or Motrin that night to ease the discomfort (it's what I suggest to our ortho patients) and don't play with them too much. Good luck! Congrats to you too Beaute and hope I've helped you as well.

I am also in the process of getting braces and I get my spacers next week. Spacers are used when the space between your molars are tight. It would be difficult for the orthodontist to put the bands on your teeth so therefore with the spacers, it creates the space needed in order to make this happen. Spacers are just little rubber bands that fit between the teeth that slightly move your teeth apart. I am dreading this because they told me at my last visit that most people say this is the worst part of orthodontic treatment. How long will you have to keep them in? I wish you the best of luck on your orthodontic treatment. Email me if I can be of further help.

Spacers are like rubber donuts that go between the teeth to allow the braces to fit in there. Talk to your dentist.

spacers are little rubber bands that the orthodontist sticks in between your back molars. they are put there to make more room to put the brackets on the back part. in other words, they are there to make space so your braces can fit.

Probably it's because you don't have enough space in your mouth or jaws for your teeth to be straight and aligned properly.
