Its a tricky one. By smoking cannabis around your children you have unknowingly said to them "its OK, i do it" and telling them to stop will be greeted with such statements of "practice what you preach".
Your only option is to ban cannabis from the house (you and your husband included) and keep a close eye on your daughter.

I have to say I agree with the first and majority answers. You are supposed to set an example, how can you preach when you've done the same. I personally feel to be a good parent amongst loving that discipline and morals you teach are also a sign of love. Let's just hope that you're not too laid back with other substances and she doesn't go down that slippery slope! It's unreal that you have to past tests for driving, mortgage etc... but anyone unfit can be parents!

I dont know why you are so shocked to find that she is doing it. If everyone she looks up to in her household does, why would you be surprised that she does? Maybe she doesnt want you to know she does, what would it matter? Its just as bad for her to do it as it is for you. You have no right to get angry at her, and if you havent done anything to your son in the past, you have no right to punish her now. So what if she didnt tell you, she doesnt have to. You never asked her if it was ok if you did. Its not like alcohol or tobacco, there is no official age when she should be allowed to start, therefore, as i said, its just as "legal" for her as it is for you. I know this may not be the answer you want to hear, but its the truth, and when my parents caught me doing it, this is what I told them. If you have a problem with it, then you need to find a way to tell her without punishing her in any way because that would be completely unfair and unjust. You may hate to hear it, but this is my Yahoo! Answers form of Tough Love. You do it, she looks up to you, you let your son do it, now you have to lie in the bed you made...get over it.

Hello! Its not the smoking of cannabis you are concerned about is it? a lot of people here have missed that point completely because they are more concerned with jumping on the moral high ground. Its seems to me she as been smoking it for sometime know without you knowing and keeping it a secret for what ever reason which could be quite trivial but has been (in her mind) blown out off proportion as it can do with inexperienced users. The best think to do I would say would to talk to her adult to adult. Good luck.

There is some narrow minded people about, who know nothing about nothing you know who I mean.

perhaps she didnt want you to think that she was like you for smoking it? probably a really bad idea to do drugs openly infront of your children! perhaps because you said it was ok to do she wanted to hide it from you so it would feel more "rebelious"? just talk to her about. sont judge her as you have obviously played a big part in it, just ask her why she feels she couldnt tell you and if she snaps at you. tell her you understand and are there if she wants to talk about it. you cant foorce her to do anything she doesnt want to do...

Kids mimic what their parents do. Change the home environment and get some family therapy with your daughter. This will effect a positive change.

you're not setting an excellent example, yourself. Why don't you all just go to a detox and get it out of your system? Its bad for you, worse its illegal and can get you in jail.

P.S. if she was decietful about something that she knew you would probably not make such a fuss of (cos u take it yourself) then she probably was NOT smoking cannabis but something else.....
