if you have an ace hardware around or an equivelant you can go there and ask for a completely organic oil based paint remover. test it on the back of your hand first to ensure no burning sensation. unless it says do not contact with skin then don't buy it. it will be more exp. now that people are going green it should be available in most areas. another option is veg. oil it will help out on the surface of the hair and make it easier to brush it out. soak the paw in water till it becomes like a prune and that will help to release the paint from the skin. and allow it to be rubbed off with a washcloth and a mild soap. if your dog act like there is any pain stop what you are doing and call a vet. oil based paints do not absorb into the skin like a laquer or water based paint would so health is not as much a factor but you still dont want him chewing at it. there are no lead based paints available to the general public since the early 70s. it is used in industrial areas. find out how old the paint was that was used if fairly new you got it made get the can if possible it will have directions on it. if for some reason it could actually be lead based paint wrap the paw in a gauze and tape it off loosely and get him to the vet. also contact the e.p.a. and turn in the person responsible because even though the paint may dry that does not meen the danger is gone. dogs love to chew on anything. so do kids. go to the website below and it will give you some good info. do not use pait thinners except totally organic some are made from aloa and citrus and do a great job.

He should be ok ! Dogs get into all kinds of crazy stuff. So do cats, birds and rabbits , from my experience anyway. Sounds like it was dry before he chewed on it,cause he had carpet stuck to it .If it was wet he would have just left painted footprints everywhere. I'm sure when he gets any carpet { and the paint } in his mouth , he will spit it out because it will taste yucky. You have to use paint thinner , but have a grown up do it cause you can damage carpet with that stuff ! Make sure you have bucket of water ready or some in bathtub to rinse his paw when you are done because paint thinner would be harmful too. Actually, you could probably just skip all that cause I'm sure it's really dry by now .Take for another walk, or chain him outside ,esp. on concrete to help wear it down ! Maybe you guys should check your shoes too. Good Luck!

Not completely sure what you can do about the paint, but I think this might help.
I visited http://www.dogchow.com/Health/Home_Safety.aspx
and found that lead paint can be harmful to dogs. I am not sure if oil paint is, but if I were you I would be careful. Try giving your vet a call on the phone, it does not usually cost you anything to give them a call on the phone.
Is the paint on the pad of his paw or the fur? If it is the fur, then you can cut the fur off. But if it is it's paw, try using a warm, wet face cloth to take it off. Gently rub his paw with the face cloth. If it is really an oil base, it should come off.
Hope this helps!

If it is a whole lot I would have it shaved off.Their should not be any lead in the paint now but he will likely chew and chew and maybe even make a sore trying to get it off,so I would take him to the vet and let them shave it off,or a groomer .They won't charge you much and then you can rest easy.I really don't think the paint will hurt him it is just the aggravation of it.Have you ever gotton superglue on your fingers??I would think it would be kinda like that.Good Luck!!!!

If it's just a little bit no, But you really should try to remove it. Try to brush it out if that doesn't work then your going to have to get something else to break the bond of the oil based paint. You can try GooGone and if that works wash your dogs paw off really well.
It is probably irritating his skin so try to get it off.

Call a vet, dogs paws absorb things easily. Your dog probably is fine, but they need to be cleaned in the grooves. Maybe you could use finger nail polisher remover withe no Acetone them wash them quickly. Good luck, I'm sure your pet is fine.

No, it won't harm him. You can't get oil base paint off with water. Try some cooking oil on it to lift the paint.
It's hard to get off fur. Ask me how I know ..................... one yellow Lab's encounter with a freshly painted green fence.
