Here is an easy standard that works for both men and women: "the more flesh you show, the less creditability you have."
I cannot tell you how true this, in both the professional/office environment and in the casual friends environment. Think of this - you set up a meeting with your lawyer to discuss a very important issue, and he comes to the meeting in Bermuda shorts and a tank top. Not professional, right?
The immediate danger of dressing indecently or in a provocative fashion is that you have less credibility in the eyes of your peers.
Secondly, however, and even more dangerous, is the fact that you have reinforced the notion that sex is a commodity, something that can be "bought and sold" for the right price. Men are visual creatures, they are stimulated with their eyes, and when you initiate a sexual response in a man, you are opening the door to a dangerous situation. The moment we begin to treat sex as a mere commodity is the moment that commodity is abused and stolen.
As women we should save the "sexy" outfits for private times with our husbands, not to be worn and feasted upon by other men in public. We will never gain any respect in the workplace if we dress like "sex kittens" or playthings. We are treated how we dress, it's as simple as that.
Now, how to fix the problem? The same way that we can fix any problem in society. First, look in the mirror and make the appropriate changes to your own wardrobe. Second, have a frank discussion with your spouse about his/her clothing, and then finally teach our children the ways of modesty and decency.
Great question, thank you!

I have no idea what it could mean to society. I think clothes are indecent when they show body parts better left to the bedroom and the shower!
Some of the other women where I work dress like they are on their way to the MTV Music Awards, and they are insulted if men stare or make comments. But if there was a dress code, they might say I have to stop wearing my jogpants to work.

There is no way to stop indecent dressing in public. Even when women wore swimming costumes that covered every inch of skin except for their face, there were always women who would push the envelope by showing their ankles.
Some of the dangers of dressing this way is ridicule, and judgment.

To me if the outfit you are wearing is literately exposing the wrong part of skin to the outdoor elements than it's indecent. In the real world all the celebs that flash their breasts and vaginas would be arrested on a daily basis.
P.S. The only way I can think of, to get people to dress more conservatively these days is to just show mainstream media celebrities in more conservative outfits and put the Playboy and porn esque stuff back in the underground where it used to be instead of in the mainstream media.

Indecent dressing in society can lead to unwanted attention from members of the opposite sex (especially when women are underdressed). It can also lead to a negative reputation for the individual, school, work place etc.
Young adults and teenagers tend to dress the way they see grown-ups dress on TV or in Magazines. Because the young mind is highly impressionable (the mind is still rapidly developing it's personality until about 24 years old for females, 26 for males) they tend to cling to what they like (or think is cool) and it becomes a part of their personality. Indecent dressing can lead to a lowering of standards in society because of this.
It is difficult to say when a dress is indecent, because it varies according to religious groups and cultures. But in my opinion, anything that makes you stand out of your surrounding area is indecent. For instance you wouldn't go to a Heavy Metal concert dressed like a prom queen/king. In the same sense, you wouldn't go to work in a lawyers firm looking like a prostitute.
In my personal opinion, I would not dress in such a way that would make me look out of place, but I would still try to look gorgeous in everything I wear.

`Revealing` outfits or outfits are actually not inevitably `Indecent` outfits. It relies upon on the subculture. the fashionable vogue (quite often in Western countries/subculture) is that girls persons can placed on what they desire. no count in case you view them as indecent or no longer is a controversy for you - maximum young women seem smart, sparkling, and neat the way they gown. Does it in no way happen that the human race went semi-bare for hundreds of years, as we climbed up the evolutionary scale? So what`s with all this `indecent` talk of how they gown now? Haven`t you heard the asserting `in case you have it, flaunt it!`? that's in straight forward terms a manner of asserting, in case you're born with an surprising physique, don`t be ashamed to coach it off. you're in straight forward terms youthful as quickly as, and that isn't for long besides.

indecent like modesty really depends on the indivual. what is modest and appropriate for a 9yo girl may not b apprpriate for her16 yo sister neither what is appropriate for the teenager may not be for her grandmother. indecent dressing may result in you calling negative attention on yourself such as verbal abuse or rape. you may be denied getting in some places example schools or hospital. remember different places has thier dress codes that needs to b observed.

How about a girl going to church in hot pants that kind you see showing the but lines? I saw this and honest to God, it was sad that her parents where NOt ashamed of her. Most people dress decently in church but this was terrible.
Now if some guy followed her down the street and raped her, well, she showed of her assets if you know what I mean.
