I started out just doing it to save money on pictures of my kids. All the studio shots I was paying for never showed my childrens' true characters. I have 2 daughters that do pageants and I started taking their headshots myself which saves me a ton of money. Now I do natural pageant/headshots for pageant kids. I am trying to combat the psycho pageant moms out there that turn a photo of their child into an airbrushed, fake barbie doll. I hate that. I have gotten a lot of compliments on what I do in that arena. Now I am venturing out into weddings and family portraits. It is still a part-time thing for me, but my dream is to be able to quit my 9 to 5 job and go full time.

Photography as a part-time business. Firstly, it pays for all my equipment, second I am priming myself for an early retirement from my regular job. I have been shooting for over 40 years and learned from my father back in the days when we had a darkroom, enlarger, and shot all B&W. I now shoot portraits, weddings, have a couple of standing jobs shooting school pictures and little league teams, not to mention some commercial clients. People seem to think that digital has changed everything. Fact is, lighting and compostion are 98% of making good images. Forget what camera and lens you have or need or want and work on those two. Don't be supprised if you start coming up with some saleable images.

Right now I'm a photography student with odd photography jobs. I'm starting to do wedding photography, I've done lots of photography for bands, plus I shoot for my school newspaper.
I've found that I can really cross the typical genres of what photographers are supposed to stay in. To have a visual eye really benefits in many areas of photography. It also benefits to have both digital and film, experience.
It brings in a small amount of money sometimes. I bet if I had more connections and worked full-time, I'd be able to pay the bills.

I can't imagine life without a camera in my hand. I'm a very keen amateur photographer and I've had some photos published in magazines and newspapers.
I also do family portraits for friends. They really like that I can go to their homes rather than having to go to a studio. The results are more natural and relaxed.
Just recently I decided to see if I could earn a bit of money entering photographic competitions. There are some surprisingly large prizes out there. While researching the legitimate competitions available, I decided to created a blog to share the information I found with other photographers. See the source info below for the address.
I'm going to investigate the "micro stock" websites to see if selling my images on the internet is worth it.
Apart from that, I just take photos because I love it.

Photography is passion like art if not more, you work with ur mind first with link of ur vision to imagine the shoot than u apply it on film or ccd, to be good in photography first u have to love it,second read magazine and learn dont copy, let ur work be ur self print, by books of old techniques and leran the basic before run to digital, read about light and how photographers draw by light and what i proportion and what the mean by a good photo and why this took award not that, and be familiar with lenses and what it effect the image.
Try to enter competitions with any image that u think it is nice and ask why it wins or why it doesnt.do ur own concept and always let ur image has a msg , let people say it is different not classic.
Yes photography can do money, with some graphic work it will lead u to discover more about color and effects. make sure to store ur image in catagories and library field..ex human-adult-children.etc..
in hat way u can fetch any image for any subject.make a small catalog and give to interior designers, they will call u and u can start in the market, and dont forget that u r an artist that u still shoot for msgs.try to do exhibition as much as u can and build a portfolio of every step u do..one u will be..wh

If you're good it can do more than pay the bills.
You can use it for a full time occupation or do only as much as you want.
A good photographer can get his traveling, expenses and time well paid for to shoots, see foreign and exotic places (I love the nude shots).
