Limewire's speed is based solely on your connection to the internet and that of who you are downloading from.

If a lot of people are downloading the same file it will also making it slower because that will impact the bandwidth of the user you are downloading from.

Several things can be happening on your side that can affect your performance.

1) Other processes. YouTube, BitTorrent, RichMedia Browsing.
2) Multiple downloads at the same time...

Unless you have a ton of spyware it is highly unlikely that anything you have downloaded and are not actually running would impact your speed in LimeWire.

Limewire is a shareware program for free. I dont know why your complaining anyway. I know that downloading illegal music is so damn inconvienant when it takes 5 minutes to get on your computer.

typically limewire speeds up as you share more of your own files, the longer you're online with it, the faster I've noticed my downloads...but I always go for downloads that have as many users as possible with the same (uninfected) file.

Are you in dial-up? That could be a factor. Or check the column labeled speed. T3 is the fastest while modem (I think) is the slowest.
