i have a tatoo on my hip as well but if i were you dont let it burn at least for the first year or so to preserve the color. just cover it up when ur in the sun. mine is doing great. but i have another that i let burn on my shoulder and it faded considerably. try tatoo.com they have awesome info. good luck

No getting a sunburn won't harm the tattoo however repeated sun exposure will cause the tat to fade alot sooner. Peeling from a sunburn only peels off the top skin, a tattoo is much deeper then that

If your skin peels after sunburn it wont damage the tattooo but exposure to the sun might cause it to fade quicker than it would normally. Make sure u put loadsa sunscreen on and u should be fine. Sunburn also cause premature ageing and in worst cases skin cancer so u should always ensure u use sunscreen all over not just on ur tattoo.

I have one on my hip that I just got done a little over a week ago, I love it. Anyway, the only damage it will do is fading the tattoo, this can be prevented by wearing a lot of sun screen on it though. Just keep sun screen on it at all times that is it being exposed to the sun and it will be fine. Good luck!

YES!!! It will totally fade! You could even damage it if your skin peels! If you are a real sun bunny then either cover up with a cute pair of sexy shorts or slather the sun lotion on like there is no tomorrow! Push comes to shove you might have to get it redone in a few years!

girl...don't you dare get a tat then lay out in the sun. the hardest thing to hear is that a person that likes sun and tattoos has to make a choice between the two (to a degree) I mean I love going to the lake and stuff. If you get a tattoo you can NOT have sun hit it for at least a month..and then only when alot and i mean alot of sunblock is on. The sun bleaches out your tats like nothing else. Not to sound preachy , I just dont want you wasting your money sweety.

p.s. vote my answer as best..pweeeeze.

Yes, the sun will not only damage the skin but some inks are photoreactive, meaning that the sun can change their pigment. Wait 3 months before sunning with a new tattoo. Always apply a thicker layer of sun screen to any ink you have on your body to keep it fresh.

i can almost hear your skin crying out in terror....

sunburn will fade your tattoo if you get badly burnt, if you just peel a little bit you should be OK as the ink from the tattoo is underneath a few layers of skin.

sunburn is really bad for you anyway - don't get burnt in the first place!

Yes the sun will damage it if you get burnt-that's why all decent tattooists will advise you to keep a new tattoo covered if you go out in the sun for the first few weeks after having it done.

if you go out in the sun alot and burn it will result in your skin peeling alot more faster and thus result in the tattoo fading far more quickly!! Protect yourself with sun lotion and frequently moisturising the skin will prevent the tattoo from fading!! But remember it will take years for a tattoo to significantly fade because the ink penetrates the deepest of skin layers!!
