Well in some cases it could be smart. Lets say you're playing with some mafioso types - they may get angry if you win, so you may in fact be saving your own life by folding.

in traditional poker it would be a dumb move. Nothing can beat a royal flush so you would be "folding the nuts"
Maybe this is a trick question. Are you playing 2/7 triple draw? Razz? Some other form of lowball? Then you would be very smart to fold a royal flush in one of these games

A royal flush is the best hand you can possibly get.
One way you could fold it is because someone bluffed you out of it. Although, if you needed a card to get it then I could see how you could do it.
