Sometime you have to change the volume settings (not volume control) on the DVD player. There should be an audio button on the remote control. Press that and something should pop up. Keep pressing it and your audio setting should change so your DVD can be heard. This happened to me a few times, but that always solved the problem for me.

Could just be compatability with DVD+R though if you get video then it should play the sound just fine.
You may have only recorded in Stereo rather than AC-3 format so maybe the settings on the player need adjusting.
Never had this problem when I did DVDs though it's been a few years - gave up on DVD ages ago. Prefer High Definition DivX - as good a picture and sound , but much smaller size - can get about 11 hours on a single DVD-R.

This is usually because the format of the file you burnt onto the DVD+R is not supported by you DVD player.
IE. most DVD players may not support
*.avi
It should say what you DVD supports in you Manual or sometime on the DVD Player Somewhere.

you are better off to use dvd rw, and you can erase them endlessly, although alot of older home dvd players do not read them correctly when burned from computer, i would say this is probably the problem!
