i think there is something wrong mentally with an individual if they are homosexual, it just doesn't make sense biologically, same thing with pedophile they have a mental problem as well, you can't rehabilitate them, i think many gays are nice people, but no i would not want them serving in the military with me

My husband and I had this discussion last night. I was raised in a very open family, my uncle is gay and was in a relationship for 15 years until his partner died of AIDS. I was raised around all colors, shapes, and physical abilities. Racism, sexism and alllll those other isms have never been an issues in my family. I never understood the whole reasoning behind the ban on gays in the military.
After marrying my husband, it took me a little while to really understand that being in the military isnt just a job. There are times that the military IS the morality police. There are rules about behavior when off duty. And if you break those rules, you get in trouble. Soldiers are held to a different standard than civilians, a higher one. They have to be upstanding, moral citizens. You cant cheat on your wife, not take care of your family, not maintain your vehicle, screw your NCO, and engage in promiscuous homosexual behavior.
That is the way it is, and really, all rules are in place to maintain organization and order in the military. Some rules seem arbitrary and, frankly, silly. (No walking and smoking at the same time while in uniform?) But others are there for the safety and welfare of the soldier. So as much as others disagree, the military shouldnt (and I say SHOULDNT because I see it happening in the Walter Reed situation) pander to the public and media. So there.

Being part of the 95% of the world's population that is heterosexual, I wonder why people worry about the other 5% (just using round numbers that might be close to reality). Now, we are all residents within a world where the distribution of characteristics on a statistical basis is largely understood....height, weight, IQ, propensity to be intravert or extravert...none of these are issues, why in anyone's wildest dreams should the sexual preferences of individuals have any other treatment?
Sexuality of any kind can be deemed immoral....I remember the time in England where mothers of new infants had to be "churched" to be forgiven for having been involved in the sin that caused the birth of the baby in the first place....no equivalent ceremony existed for the father involved!!
I believe that homosexuality is a quirk of nature. There is some evidence to suggest that some so affected have severe mental difficulties with where they find themselves, whether that is because of long held ancient views of homosexuality by the main stream population or a matter of them being hypersensitive to the mainstream view I do not know. I think that the time has come for mankind to become a bit more temperate about such issues and adopt a more "live and let live" attitude, or at least try to understand it. I sometimes wonder how the ancient Greeks came to find acceptability for such a bent.

Immoral? Who cares? There are a lot of perceived immoral things that people do. However, I believe it is sick, and I believe that homos should not be in the military, no ifs, ands, or buts. I think the current law should be changed to "If I don't tell, I can be asked, and if I am found to be gay and knew it when I enlisted, I should be prosecuted for false enlistment and kicked out with a dishonorable discharge." Thats my opinion, and being in the military, I feel that it is an opinion shared by most if not all of us. Thankfully, the Marine Corps is still a society where homosexuality, obesity, and other such "afflictions that cannot be helped, supposedly" are not tolerated, and I pray that they will never be tolerated, period. Cohesion and brotherhood are the backbone of a successful fighting force, and this cohesion and brotherhood cannot be achieved if there is someone who is "different" in the ranks. General Pace is right on this one, and I'll agree with him all the way.

My bible is the foundation of my moral code and it calls homosexuality an abomination before God. That's good enough reason for me to say it is immoral.
I've heard the argument that they were born that way. If I had a child born with cancer I'd get him treatment I wouldn't just throw up my hands and say "oh, he was born that way".
Such behavior is contradictory to both evolution and creationism, the best thing we can do, as a moral society, is not to accept this but offer treatment to those afflicted.

For all you liberals out there who don't know how to defend a nation, please enjoy my edited version from "A Few Good Men." (Really, how true it is today even though they portrayed the Colonel as crazy!)
Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? Gay Liberals? The military has a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for open homosexual behavior and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what all combat Marines know: that banning homosexuality in the military, while tragic to you, saves Marine lives by building unit cohesion crucial in sustained combat operations. And the military's anti-homosexual stance, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives through that very same cohesion! You don't want the truth that homosexuality breaks down unit cohesion, because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want straight Marines on that wall! You need straight Marines on that wall! Marines use words like honor, code, loyalty, and yes, morality. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. The military has neither the time nor the inclination to explain itself to a group of cowards who rise and sleep under the blanket of the very freedom that the military provides, and then questions the manner in which they provide it! I would rather you just said, "Thank you," and went on your private, homosexual way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post and keep your immoral behavior to yourself. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!
Additional observation after reading some pro-HS arguments on this board:
Isn't it funny how the liberals support openess about homosexuality, but try to repress your openess about your religion, especially if you are a Christian. They will do anything to suppress your display of religious belief.

Everyone has a different set of morals. The question that needs to be asked is "Does homosexuality directly effect the rights of others?"
The simple answer is "no". Another persons sexual preference does not restrict or compromise your rights. Forcing them to lie about it does compromise theirs, though.
I, personally, believe homosexuality is immoral. In a nation where "all men are created equal", however, that is a moot point.

No, I don't think its immoral. But, at the moment, I believe in the "don't ask don't tell" - not because I think its a good thing, but more because I don't think 95% of the military is comfortable enough with their sexuality to be mature enough to handle being around a homosexual, and treating them as just another human being. People need to grow up and stop being so self centered and dramatic. Its a sexual preference, not a deviant behaviour.

Ron, I don't care if you're gay and I don't care if you're in the military. I think that my attitude is similar to the direction that America is leaning. Attitudes are becoming more tolerant.
