Ok, first off all self righteous non-smokers need not respond. Sorry but they are so sickeningly abnoxious and that's the last thing I need right now...
I found out I was pregnant and went from a pack a day to about 5. Before I hit 12 weeks I want to quit totally. I would like to hear from ex-smoker's who've successfully quit. The withdrawals, as you know, are awful! I get charlie-horse type pain in my legs among many other rotten withdrawal symptoms. I had cut down to two a day (which the doctor was pleased with) but I've creeped back up to 5. Now I just want to end this madness and quit totally. Please give me some suggestions on easing the physical withdrawal symptoms. I wish I could take the patch because I used it before and quit for 2 years (don't even ask why I started again, I kick myself all the time for that!) The only thing I found that easing the horrible pain in my legs is a warm bath bath but I can't stay in the tub 24 hrs a day! Please give me some advice!! Thanks!

I know it's hard, I quit when I was 13 wks. Honestly, the only thing that worked for me was my female doctor getting mad and telling me the truth. She said when I smoke, no matter how many per day, it's the same as putting my hands around the babies neck when it's born. She asked me, looking me straight in the face, if I would strangle my child after birth, of course I was horrified, and said no, she said then STOP doing it now! She told me that the smoke causes the baby to stop getting air thru the cord, basically choking her/him, not to mention the chemicals the baby also gets.
Now I will tell you, I left that day and didn't smoke again the entire time I was pregnant, did the cravings go away, absolutely not. I got terrible headaches, shakes during the night, and the smell made me sick if I was around anyone smoking. The leg cramps are typical of being pregnant, I had them, and so has a few friends who never smoked. Unfortunatly, nothing really you can do, they come and go, just try your best to relax thru them, rub it out if it helps. One thing that helped me was a full body pillow at night, which was when I got them more. Sleep with it between your legs, this also takes pressure off your back when your belly gets bigger later. Go get one.
Honestly, labor was the worst for me as far as smoking, I had my daughter in 2 hours, very nice labor compared to some I've heard, but after, I wanted to smoke sooooooo bad, lol. I breast fed, did this for 5 months, and then yes, I went back to smoking, not around her of course, never did smoke in the house or car anyway. I guess really it's up to you whether you quit now. I know you can do it, I did. By the way, when I went into the doctor that day, I had NOT slowed down, still at a pack a day. So being that you have slowed honey you are over half way there!!! Good For You, and good luck with your new baby.

must think of your baby now.
When i found out i was pregnant with my son i quit cold turkey right then and there, the thing that made it easier was the fact that i had a little baby growing inside me and i didn't want to harm it in any way.
Along with smoking i gave up all things i associated with it, like coffee, alchohol, late nights etc.
Before you know it i didn't even feel like a smoker any more, i was a mother.
Mothers must look after their babies!
If you keep thinking that way you'll quit and feel so proud of yourself.
Good Luck

Your charlie-horse pains are probably due to the pregnancy more than they are from not smoking as much...ask your doctor if there is something he or she can recommend. You could probably use those warming wraps that they sell for back pain on your legs. I used the old heating pads when I was pregnant and it helped alot.

Consider this...would you hand an infant a cigarette? Cold turkey is the safest way for your beautiful unborn child.

QUIT NOW
