That's because religion,and I mean all religion,has usually been spread by the sword. We focus on Islam because it is the most violent,at this particular moment. Many supposedly moderate Muslims claim these people don't speak for Islam, yet they don't speak against them and they protect them when they are in their midst. Prime example is that it has taken 4 years to get even Muslims who were dying in droves in Iraq because of the actions of terrorists to start reporting the activities of those same terrorists. They would rather die than be seen as helping the "infidel" against their Muslim brethren,even when it's their Muslim neighbors who are killing them. Because a Muslim is a Muslim before all other things, including his humanity,even those that are in most ways good people will excuse anything if it is done by a fellow Muslim. They could gut babies on national television and every Muslim in this country would do everything in his power to blame that on someone else,it's what adherance that strong to any religion demands. It was only a few hundred years ago that there were Christian groups that fanatical,and if you look at the Christian groups around the world that fanaticism is on its way back,so get ready for even more bloodshed in the name of God in probably 30 years or less,because it only takes about 1 generation to turn from a peaceful religion into a group of totally fanatical nutcases.
